Wipe the servers, its the only way...

I've been playing as a free customer since the game came out roughly I have one 60 rogue. I was okay with the foundry exploit of people leveling up 1-60 in a day (i know a few famous streamers who showed it live but didnt get any consequences), pvp afk premades (free glory and fast leveling after foundry fix) didnt get banned either. Exploits of bosses to 1 shot them for loot that sells in AH for xx,HAMSTER,HAMSTER amounts (some people got banned for this). The amount of GAME BREAKING bugs in this "open beta" is kind of a lot but I digress.

With the new AH/ AD dupe method to get unreal amounts of AD, buying every piece of gear you want from AH/ AD vendor, cat companions etc definitely broke the game beyond just a quick hotfix. This is something that will take a long time to fix. Considering the fact that this has been going on since closed beta but was just really on the down low and eventually more people found out about it until the whole server did.

Is Cryptic really going to go that far back to fix this issue? Why spend days and countless man hours to "attempt" to ban people who exploited AD, accidentally ban people who didn't exploit but just got free tainted cat companions, have to appeal and listen to the influx of people pissed that you banned them wrongly. Its a waste of resources in my mind, the best thing to do is :

1. Wipe the servers
2. Refund any real purchased ZEN into the users account on the website
3. Refund founder pack back to account with option to reuse it (I know you want to keep your $$$)
4. Give a 15%+ bonus to XP and AD generation for 5 days after wiping the server (incentive to return)

Accept the losses you will take but look to the future. If you don't wipe the servers you will always have that one guy who exploited but wasn't found out or someone somewhere who got that cat companion or items from tainted AD. Which in the end defeats your whole philosophy of keeping this game "fair and balanced". Otherwise you'll spend wasted resources trying to fix this HUGE game shattering issue.

I know you'll lose some money in your pockets and may have to sell your Lamborghini but sometimes that what you gotta do. Trust me on this I'm a doctor.

OR... Just relegate current shards to legacy/test status, and make new, release shards. There, another solution to ponder.

so basically a big F U to current realms and then create new release realms. Could work

Problem with this is the people who spent tons of money on this game to support it for one or just liked the game and spent money on it...all of which would be completely gone and would make every one of those players very angry and to be honest those are the most important...sorry to say but the people spending money are the ones paying cryptics bills.

So instead, you want a big F U to people who spend a lot of time getting to lvl 60 and maybe even paid for key to lockboxes or other stuff?

Then replicate all Zen purchased and other bonuses (e.g. founders bonus) to the new servers too.

OR... Return all auctioned items to the seller after making them all Bind on Pickup and install a Bind on Pick Up on all rare&class based loot.

OR... Check AH records for anyone posting items for the exploited amount (since the character name tag is attached to the auction and ban them permanently.

Oh no, somebody got a cat for free..........

Come on, shut up. You people are like a broken record. The price of zen went up by about 20 AD. That price is going to fall drastically in the next few days I bet. I don't even care about AD, zen, mounts, cats, or any of that HAMSTER. I just want to make my Foundry quests, enjoy other peoples' Foundry quests, and not have my new favorite game RUINED by a bunch of selfish crybabies.

surely it would be easier to trace and replace any cash purchase rather than every single character on every single shard.
maybe they're looking it in a sort list of ad, who knows but every cash payment has a receipt which could easily be tagged and resolved.
anyone else who has just been playing the game gets a lesson on beta environments.

personally i dont care what they do it wont matter to me, i only ever looked at the auction once.
for me its about the gameplay and the world itself.

I agree there should be BOP items because being able to buy T1 and T2 items from AH is dumb you should have to grind that yourself. Simply banning people who posted items for exploited amount might work but they would have to go back to the start of open beta since it was going on even though just was less known. Unless they can magically make all the trades done with AD disappear like buying 20 cats and giving them to random people. IF they can delete all transactions associated with exploited AD it would be a good incoming fix but I honestly dont think AD or Zen will ever be the same after this. I guess its what happens what a mmorpg decides to have 3 currencies...

Not everyone got a free cat since some of us worked our butts off to get it through the AD Store (and just got it at that).

Never say the cat thing in AH so Im assuming it was not on my server. What server was hit by the cat spamming anyways?

I would be fine with this, and wouldn't mind re-leveling my 60 on an even playing field.

Other players that want to stay on the corrupted "legacy" servers can.

and what should they do next week when the new exploit is found?? or the one after that ?? or the one after that ??
face it folks the best option is perma bans not wiping the game at the end of each week due to a new exploit.
you ban enough exploiters it will slow down, and the true legit players will fix the economy by being fair with the AH pricing of there trades

Honestly I think either of these options are good ones. With an exploit like this there is not telling how much false currency was created. Personally, I would have more faith in the economy if the servers were reset and/or new shards were created that wont merge with the current ones.

As far as wiping goes; it's a beta, and this kind of thing happens. People will complain, but the fact is everyone is leveling under the knowledge this is beta, and in betas nothing is set is stone. I know they said they don't plan to do a wipe, but for something this large it seems the best course of action. A good boost would help as well to help players feel better about the whole thing.

Also worth mentioning to those who are angry this happened. It's not their fault this happens, its just the nature of the beast when it comes to MMO's. They have done a good job of giving status updates, not the one we want to hear, but a good job none the less.

Every server, the cat wasnt in AH. People who got billions of AD would buy the cats and just give them away to legit players for free. I saw about 20+ cats given away on legit players on a stream. When you got 60 billion AD what to do with it all?

It would help alittle with the players that roll NEED on everything just so they can AH it also.

That might be why I didn't see it then. I was at work running AH/Professions via the Gateway at the time.

I haven't even played the game yet and I completely agree with the wipe. A rollback is not severe enough for this situation. This is an in game currency vs. real money issue. The people that paid for the founders items in real currency at least deserve this. The items are account bound so they should still be able to retrieve them via the claim items menu.

Wipe the servers, start from scratch, ban the exploiters.

it will just give it time, i saw stuff like this happen all the time in other mmo's

no mmo is 100% exploit free and thats the main reason i don't use the AH or online trade unless it's a trusted friend and i can count those on 1 hand

If not then their wasted development time they could be spending on stuff like making raids and adding new pvp types and maps.

I just hate seeing players that played legit punished by removing/whipping all the time spent lvling characters, AD gain from leadership profession via Gateway downtime, hard earned items (be it by AD/Zen conversion marketing/by low-see high, finally getting said item after running difficult dungeon run, legal PW zen purchase). Why punish the good for something the wicked did.

Everyone screams wipe and that really just hurts the legit player that worked hard for what they have.

I'm a legit player that screams wipe, I dont have full epics but I got full pvp epics and high level professions. Honestly though I'll be surprised if they actually do wipe because I know how bad they want to save face by not wiping the servers.

Right. Which is why I REALLY doubt most of these newly registered no avatar nobodies on here calling for wipes are legit players.

Dude, this is an open beta. Quit *****ing about content. Just because there isn't raids now does not mean there wont be later. Or at release even. Betas are never complete games. Why don't you actually test the game instead of gobbling down content like Honey Boo Boo's mother eats Big-Macs.
