Changing appearance and dyes question

If I dye an armor (or any equipment, really) and then change its appearance onto another, will it keep the dyed look? Also, can you keep doing this in a chain of changing appearances?

Dye persists, but you want to use a dye remover on any dye that you don't want to keep if using a dyed item to transmute another dyed item (like from elemental upgrades), as I'm not sure which will end up dominating.
