please do something against spam

onlymatonlymat Member Posts: 353 Arc User
In Protectors I always see goto www.xxxxxxx.com to buy Neverwinter gold an so on - they spam the whole Message Board with this !

Please add a rule that it is not allowed to post external links ! I don't know all of the links but I'm sure there are links who trick people to steal their accounts !

If people post those links they should get banned. First time for 1 hour then 3 days and then 1 week and then forever.

Please report anyone you see doing this. I believe they have added a way to do this in the game. I don't have an Xbox, so I don't know how to do it, but I'm pretty sure they added this feature in with Rise of Tiamat.

They added it, and I've even reported said people; but yet every day there's another Character name spamming the same thing.

The only way to prevent this is to ban the actual Gamertag and not character; but only MS can do that... And only then it will stop, as it costs £££ for XBL account

Generally they wait until they have a whole bunch of them, and the do a mass ban, I think? That's how most video game companies seem to handle it anyway.

I have seen the same spam message by several xbox gamer tags. Seems to keep changing. Maybe someone saved up those "free month" things.

If they do the same on Xbox that they do on PC - they wait for some unknowing victim to buy from them, and then they proceed to hack that person's account and use it to further promote their scam. Buying from 3rd party is a bad idea for many reasons, including the one I just mentioned.

With this whole "share with gold" mechanic on XBL, a single Live account can share online membership with any GT on it's system. If they get their spambot GTs banned, they can simply delete it, make a new one and get it going all over again. Developers would need to try and ask MS to perform console bans, perhaps?

or you can just turn that chat channel off, if its trade channel then turn it off, my tabs include, one tab where only group/guild chat are turned on, making spam a thing of the past

The problem is it's spreading to Looking for Group, and Zone which is becoming really annoying; as those chats are the ones people will not "mute" unless you are sololy running with guilds in the same instances and are not trying to farm like many of us do

So if the developers can @#@# out profanity and even a popular TV series abbreviation, why can they not just add a filter that will block out the specific website they are promoting? They will stop spamming if the website itself can no longer be visible. Just my thoughts as this IS something the game developers can control without going through Microsoft.

MS can ban the console and/or the account that is granting Gold. NWN just needs to implement a good reporting process.

Of course being able to actually mute people in chat would help greatly until a ban can be applied. Considering how long it takes for a ban, the ability to Mute would be more useful.

You can mute them in chat by opening xbox live profile and ignoring there, however you then must log out of NW and quit out before it will be in effect in game. This gives very short breaks of chat spam, but also drives you crazy when you ban six different variations of xyxxfdggyy over a day or two.

For those suggesting turning off the trade chat, haven't you seen how many people use the LFG and Zone and etc tabs to suggest trades, or for that matter, LFG in zone, or any of that in trade. Shutting down trade chat just gets rid of much of the trade chat. The spammer links included. So stopping the posting of URL in open chat is a key there, just like the profanity filter that has a problem with "900K" (for whatever reason) and other non-profanity needs a bit of tuning. Bottom line, us having to turn off trade chat ourselves might make sense, except it doesn't fully fix the problem anyway, just like it doesn't stop me from having to look at players who want 50 gold for something that might be worth 15 (99 Greater Scrolls of ID for example) or people telling you what they've posted in the auction house, as if you couldn't go you know look in the auction house and that's why it's there.

As far as the accounts posting the spam links, I usually report offensive player to the game, then bring up the xbox profile and report an block.

It wouldn't be very difficult though it also wouldn't be the best fix. From what I can tell the game uses a primitive word filter that blocks out strings of letters. This means they could simply add the strings "www" and ".com".

This unfortunately won't do much as it's easy to get around using something like ".c0m" or "wvvw". Other games that use this type of word filter haven't really been able to do much in the way of removing url spam. Unfortunately it's not something that really can be blocked sufficiently. Anytime something gets blocked, the spammer just needs to come up with a new way to say it which is quite an easy workaround.

Sure, always ways around things, but always better filters (and blocklists and such) are possible. For the phishers etc, it's all about numbers, but it would seem that like a lot of other people they don't quite get that things don't work the same way on console. I suppose it's just vainly pondering how many XB One players are likely to go there versus numbers of PC players, and what it's worth trying to stop them. Just like wondering what it takes to get rid of the VTK system entirely :)

they really should filter some keyword like okgoods and all those shi....
Or they should implement a feature that I can block a player so I can't read his messages.

Very cool would be if the developers would be online and if they see someone doing this spam to ban them asap and also report the players name to Microsoft so they can ban the whole console - not only the gamertag - this way it will stop !
