Gear score fluctuations?

So me and some friends have been working towards getting the 13K gear score we need to do the epic shores & Lostmauth(sp). We have noticed that our gear score will randomly drop 10-100ish points. He just got to exactly 1300 with a gem upgrade he did. We went into the epic lostmauth and when we were done his gear score had dropped by 9 points. He wasn't injured nor did he change anything on his character. I've noticed by gear score drop as well.

So basically my question is wtf causes it lol.

    Depending on who stands next to you different classes can give you buff auras.

    U also get a bonus from fire pits and sometimes praying
