Companion Stats and GS Questions

I've started collecting AD over the last couple of weeks, so decided I would try boosting my character stats through companions and such.
The easiest companion to get that had all slots available was the Were Rat or w/e it is called from 200 Drake seals.
I spent a bunch of AD throwing Epic Runestones and equipment into all the slots. 3 Epic equip with 3 epic Draconic and each of his runestone slots with an Epic Rune, one of which is an Eldritch.

I was surprised to note (maybe I shouldn't have been) that the stat bonuses from the Eldritch don't apply to Gear Score, and only effect your main character when the Companion is summoned.
At least I can remove the Runestones and apply it to another companion (around the same time I picked up an Assassin Drake as well).
So my question is, if only the active bonus effects your character, what would be a good option for companion to use to boost my stats? Would my best bet be an Ioun Stone?

    I prefer the Ioun Stones. Whatever stats they have you get. Companions, even Ioun Stones with their stats added to your toon, don't add much to your GS, but the benefit of the Stones is that they don't aggro anything. That's real nice when fighting the final boss in The Dread Vault.

    Makes sense, maybe I'll save up for one of those then.
    Only Active companion stats add to your GS right? Nothing from Eldritch stones and things?

    You don't get a higher GS from your augment companion stats, but it's the best investment you can make.
    Statcompanions don't do much either. Get those with good actives like Wild Hunt Rider (for CWs), Combat Advantage or Crit Serverity pets.

    On the pc version the stats from 3-stat-enchantments like draconic/black ice don't work in your stone! Test this please.

    If you really want to up your gear, learn about caps and strife for them.

    Some mixed response about yes or no on the GS stuff. But no makes sense to me.
