GF and expanding Shield mechanics

I wondered, should GF always have an extra passive DR rating from the front when the shield is equipped, in combat and not attacking? Looking at the animation, shield is never dropped when in combat, it's always facing the front.

This would not count as braced Block stance, so no CC immunity, or skills activated like Guarded Assault. It's just complimentary DR, that allows you some breathing room and flexability between power uses.

I always thought the second hit from the Cleave and Crushing Surge hit should count as having block up temporarily, enabling you to complete a combo in between hits by timing it. As it is with the new content, I am all for increased difficulty but theres just no breathing room lategame, and you barely dare to lift your finger from shift.

Not to mention, when do I get to guard attacks for people standing behind me as a GF? Please..put a protection area right behind the GF so they can intercept damage just by being present physically between enemy and ally.

So my three additions.
  • Unbraced Guarding - 60-80% DR from front, when not doing an offensive attack. No CC immunity or Feat activations from regular Block
  • At-Will (Cleave, Crushing Surge) - Combo attack pattern #1 Shield down, #2 Shield up, #3 Shield down (Combo completed)
  • Protective Area - Small area directly behind GF, intercepts damage from single targeted attacks, enemy to friendly. Reduced or no effectiveness on AOE attacks. GF must stand in the line of sight of the attack.

* Bonus addition
  • Cleave - every completion of the Cleave combo produces a stack of Reckless Abandon. For every stack of Reckless Abandon returns 2% Temporary HP on Combo Completion. Stacks up to 5 times.

    I just want to be able to use encounters more freely without going insta-splat. because right now its a very dull dance of holding down shift.

    That suggestion is just way too powerful, they just need to tune/balance the monsters or give us a short duration buff after dropping out shield.

    Cleave just needs a boost in either damage or its cone/radius.

    It's quite easy. If anyone is attacking you through shield = 100% DR, 100% CC.
    If some1 hitting your back = standard DR, CC. NO piercing dmg through guard. HOW it's possible?

    It is pretty frustrating. Previously you could take a hit or 2 and survive. Now so many things insta-kill you that 90% of the times I die it is because I went for an encounter and did not see one attack animation. Which even if it does not kill you knocks you down low enough that eating 20% of the attacks from everything else kills unless the healer is all-over it. I pretty much keep FR slotted 24-7 because it is the best chance at surving a mistake.

    Please note that a shield hanging off of something on your back is not attached to anything. it would be just as easy to say when hit once from behind the damage is blocked, but sends your shield skittering across the battlefield, and you can't block until you go find it and pick it up.

    When combat starts, your character automaticly switches to a combat stance. For a Guardian Fighter it looks like the screenshot provided.
