I'm speechless, seriously. You just said that you have a 1900 ilvl GWF and a "great build"... Dude, that's not Astral Shield, that's DARING SHOUT which applies a Damage Resistance effect to your character based on how powerful your the targets are and also increase your Determination.
You are using videos of people who already have all their boons up and working to prove it's possible to do that content and earn those boons?
that is why there is much less equipment than ppl normally would have, IWD should have at least 3~4 blue artifacts, rank7, at least lvl 70 rares if not t1, blue artifact weapon/oh, and companions with loyal(sword coast adventures) equipment + weapon and armor enchant
DR should have quest set or random/quest reward blues, rank5s minimum and artifact weapon/oh + a blue artifact or 3

I'm out of this thread, maybe it's contagious.
Ah... the "lightning" is Daring Shout.. I've actually never used it. That doesn't explain the little shields that rotate around you. Or how quickly you heal. Or how you're doing twice as much damage as a fully-loaded GWF.
There's still something fishy about that whole thing, and your classic deflection of insulting me is simply a diversionary tactic to derail the conversation. You're lying.

haha omg..
He actually geared down to the minimum possible to make up for some of the boon advantage he has over others. People "attempting" these mini dungeons should be WAY more geared then he was on his gwf. And you say his damage and healing is too high? Well then take a look at your build, feats, specc etc. There is probably something you can change to increase you damage and healing.
burkaanc aside, I think most people agree soloing in WoD and IWD is quite painful for players without T2 gear and high-ranked enchantments.
If Cryptic wants to keep the solo casual player -- and let's face it, NW has been a good place for the undergeared, casual player up until Mod 6 -- I think they need to set the mobs in Shar and DR to lvl 71, and in IWD and WoD to 72. And gate the campaigns again.
Still progression, but let's give the casual player a chance to survive a couple polar bears in IWD.
That is a good idea, really, to back down the difficulty a little, but not a lot.

In short: you cannot solo the campaign content in pre-mod6 gear. Maybe, if you were TOTALLY maxed out, you could slog through it... maybe. You *must* have mod-6 gear, if you are still wearing your lvl 60 T2 set gear, you're going to die. A Lot. If you're wearing modern gear (mod6), you will still die, but not nearly as much. It's like back in the first few months of the game - you have to actually start small and work your way up into the better gear. But trust me - once you do earn your way up into the better gear, the game DOES get easier. You shouldn't start out by walking into the campaign areas, you should start by finishing up the levelling zones (spinward in particular) and then doing some DDs. After not very long you can start on the campaign areas. Even a brand new player can do this. It will not be easy, but it can be done - especially if you don't mind joining a guild and getting some friends to help out. But even if you don't, you CAN still solo those areas once you've put in adequate time prepping...
you CAN still solo those areas once you've put in adequate time prepping...
Absolutely true.
In fact, I already do this on a daily basis and I get paid for it. It's called a job. And I even enjoy my job. Maybe almost as much as I enjoy Neverwinter (!) - which either says a helluvalot about my Job or a helluvalaot about Neverwinter. And playing Neverwinter doesn't put any food on my table or pay my mortgage. See the difference? One is mandatory, the other isn't. So if one is painful to do but mandatory then I suffer the pain to do it.
Just think about that one for a second or two.
yes, yes, yes, I'm exaggerating and using an over-the-top-example (the shrill vitriolic fanatical forum posters have learned me in this technique right here in these forums).
Neverwinter is supposed to be a game for entertainment, not work. As for the "difficulty" levels in general zone: when I played Spanward Rise "Thundering whatever" portion (third area) at level 70 against Cloud Giants and such: that was the "sweet spot" I think; a good challenge, difficult but not *work*. It was fun. For me THAT is the benchmark.
Then I go into Ghost Stories and WTFark is this shight? Ummm, no. Die way to often no matter wtf I do and it takes way too farking long to do a simple solo-skirmish. Not no, but hell-no. So I don't play Ghost Stories. Ever (until I hear that it's 'more appropriately adjusted).
So if I'd rather NOT play those areas I find too difficult then what? Think about it. What will I spend my new money on if I'm not playing any of the new stuff?
All you condescending elitists (you know who you are) who are luvin' what we got right now? You go on luvin' it. But I'm willing to bet all those people who actually really do buy the Zen Points - aren't luvin' it. And that matters. No need to say any more about what happens next if things don't change.
That is a good idea, really, to back down the difficulty a little, but not a lot.
What they said .Just not much fun any more. I have more art gear than I have ever had before and have never felt as weak.Seems the more you level the weaker you get I have all the level 3 IWD armor for all the good it does yeah.
When Champions Online was released one of its selling points was that your character would feel powerful! Trash mobs would crumble against your might. Bosses would present a challenge, but nothing that couldn't overcome on your own, or with the help of a few friends.
Now, I reference CO because it to is a Cryptic game, a game I played before I came to Neverwinter. When I came over to Neverwinter guess what? It felt a lot like CO! My ranger / rogue destroyed hoards of mobs, they could also work their way around Bosses. Of course if I wanted to do epic stuff then I needed friends!
What has Neverwinter become to the casual (and some experienced players too) player? Want to do those same dailies you solo'd in mod 5? Better call for help! You no longer have the power to solo the stuff you did before. Congratulations and welcome to level 70!
If NW were to lose its casual base that would hurt the game pretty bad.
If NW were to lose a large portion of its customers who spend real cash in game that would be bad - for all of us as they are the folks who keep NW online.
While I still enjoy some facets of the game in its current state: PvP / GG / DD's with my Guild, outside of that I find myself becoming more and more of a human invoking bot.
Neverwinter needs to become more fun again - not just for me, but for everyone - casual and hardcore alike!
Ah @angrysprite, this is a drinkin bloke right here. He gets it and I agree with his words on 'work'. We players are all looking for different things, and to many of us, this repetitive slogging is not fun. To some, this kind of thing is and I suppose you have everything you could wish for, but I don't want another job, especially one that does not generate income.

^This post here is pretty ridiculous to me. See, the guy you are doubting and insulting has done a lot for the GWF community. Has apparently spent a great deal of time testing and refining the class and what does he do with what he's learned? He brings it to the Barracks in the form of an outstanding guide for people like you. Your time would have been better spent reading his guide and asking him questions so that, you too, could do what he did in that video. I am guessing he would assist you since he seems to be selfless with his time (judging by his responses to folks in his guide).
Anyhow, I figured I would give Dread Spire a shot on my stripped lvl 60 SM GWF yesterday. IL 1600, old AoW set, 20something K HP and no enchants...I don't play SM well so I died a lot but it was still doable. However, I still stand by the dailies needing to be toned down, my 2.4K SW doesn't need to feel like he is soloing an old T2 dungeon when he's in the Drake Pens. Even though I can solo the DP, there is no way I'm going back to try again. Way to difficult (for me, at least) to justify my time there for what it is. And no, I'm not gonna group-up for friggin' dailies.

GWFs are quite strong right now, so I don't think we should be using them as the mark of soloability. But I add my thanks to Lazalia for his awesome guide and videos.
I am having no problem with soloing Sharandar and DR on any of my alts (CW/DC/GWF/HR/SW), but I have to say that IWD kicked my SW's butt. She's lvl 70, ilvl~2k in Eternal gear, with the rest mostly blues.
It took me several tries to kill one polar bear pair, and I quit Biggrins after a few deaths: I know that I could have made it through eventually, but the time it was taking was out of line for what I would get for it (and she has all the boons, so it would just be the chest reward). Not fun.
