Golds value

So early on, I figured gold was worthless in this game. But I guess I was wrong. I've seen people on the trade channel selling stuff for gold.

I'm a TR, which means I get kicked out of dungeon groups faster than you can say "dungeon groups". But I can farm gold faster than a mother.

My question is, what is gold worth in terms of gold to AD if I were to trade it? (aprox of course) Also what are these people doing with that gold? I mean how many healing pots and injury kits can you use?

IDK why people are selling anything for gold, I assume that will change with time.

I use the gold I make to buy injury kits and potions for dungeons when the healer goes down. (Big if, but it happens). So gold is useful in that aspect. As long as people sell stuff for gold, I'll buy it for my other toons, and sell things to them for it.

Gold is certainly worth a lot more now that traps cause an injury. But there really isn't a X = Y value when it comes to gold yet. There really isn't a large enough market for it.

So I picked up a few tips from the "main" forums. Buy potions, injury kits, white mounts and white companions. Sell that stuff on the auction house for AD. Gonna check that out and see if its worth it.

you can make profit off of gold. sometimes what you can do is sell a item for gold then use that same gold to buy a more expensive item and sell that for ad or use it. and gold is easier to earn than ad. bots use it all the time.

1000 AD = 1 gold is the standard rate.
Gold is definitely worth keeping. As the game progresses and more mods comes out you will need gold to manage enchantments. 2g 50s to remove enchantments off your gear. 5g to remove both enchantments off armor or main hand. More mods = more enchantments.
Also, take in consideration that potions for level 60 are 1g per 20. 4g per 20 for injury kits. Eventually we will get to the level 70 cap and potions/injury kits are going to more expensive.
So, with that said, gold is worth keeping and sought after. If you disagree, I'll take it all that you have and deal with that burden of having all that gold. :)

    According to whom?

A friend and I were discussing this last night after a deal he attempted to make through the chat mess. I feel like I am still learning how to play this game, and if there is an unspoken "official" gold standard, I'd like to know about it.

It's unofficial. Just a number that the majority of the player base adhere to. It is inaccurate though and will eventually change. With all of the double astral days I'd say it's fair to assume that the ratio of diamonds to 1 gold would have risen some seeing as there is still the same influx of gold coming into the game. No telling if the player base will adjust for this or not though.
