I'm the same, can't burst anyone down. Even when I live a long time I can't kill anyone, lol. But I'm only at 8,700 GS.
GWF is still strong. It is only bad against some trs for obvious reasons (that ****ty class has way too many armor pen features that make the point of GF/GWF have high dr questionable). i do great however against all other classes, specially rangers. Rangers are good counter for trs, and gwfs are slayers of rangers on pvp.
But sadly, because they nerfed our closing gap skills, GWF is a lot more gear dependent than other classes (any low gear TR will do great, and even my brother with his low gear score does really good on his HR).
I don't like to give off my build because I have always been that player that studies PvP builds, never copies and try my own thing. So I think it is fair that other people work for that too. Also, I am always switching, trying different paragons, so you could be saying I''m never a constant. However, what I can tell about GWFs for pvp on xbox one is that they are running their gear and rolls completely wrong. FOR ALL CLASSES, and even more important for GWFs, survival is more important than anything. It is frustrating when I am in a pvp match, and I inspect a random GWF on my team, and 9/10 times they dont have more than 25k HP. I dont know why people think Strenght is a good stats for GWF... I dont know why people underestimate CON when it gives GWF both survivality and damage (armor pen)... That is all I can advise. the rest is fun to figure out!

Makes no sense that GWF should fear Rogues. Rogues are supposed to squash clothies, GWF should squash Rogues, and around and around we go. Rogues apparently have no counter though.
I'm all about the tank build but so far I don't seem to have enough damage to go along with it to actually kill anyone. Getting better though, I'm at about 10k GS. I rolled my Half-Orc based off a PvE build like an idiot, so I'm thinking I need to go back and do a race re-roll to get my constitution up. What should I be shooting for on CON after adding all points to CON and DEX? I'm at 27,000 HP right now with all the CON feats.
I re-rolled my stats last night, the highest I could get constitution on a Half Orc was 18 with the +2 race bonus on CON and DEX. I went from 27,000 HP to 30,000 or so, but I'm only in T1 PvP gear.
That's how I'm playing at the moment. Whether I can call it successful or not is a toss up. I've only played GWF and only for a few months.
Frankly I'm wishing I had rolled GF so I could at least have one job to be "good" at if I'm going to get my HAMSTER pushed in 24/7.
How's ur damage and survival. It seems like I'm pretty squishy and I pretty much have all my end game times except for my pain rings. I have a 14kGS and I'm at 3800crit, 26% Arm Pen, and I got 1600 Defense. Im just curious to see if switching to IV if my survive goes up. I'm not worried about dps. Everywhere I've ready states that dps wise they are the same but iv has better survival but that has come from PC players.
I'm starting to think that it's more of a class problem and not a gear/spec problem. After doing some research apparently IV WAS better than swordmaster dps because people were able to animation cancel back when it first got released. Eh I guess I'll stay SM for now. I dont PVP for that reason but the vanguarDs banner artifact look nice and has decent stats
Well you're probably talking PvE I guess, I'm PvP only so my build and gear would be a bad idea for serious PvE. Seems like Swordmaster is usually favored for PvE, but IV is almost necessary for PvP for Threatening Rush as a gap closer.
Yeah I know IV is the go to for pvp I was curious as to how IV fares in pve. I'm a SM now, but I am curious.
I haven't played as IV spec, but from what I read SM has the better daily and the at-wills are a wash. I thought I read that both encounters were poor, but I make good use of Flourish. There's several ways to go about it, but I followed a guide that went SM Destroyer so that's what I use.
I'm very very happy with the DPS I can output, although my groups HR and CW have definitely caught up and often pass now. The difference is I'm not quite as squishy as them, mostly because my unstoppable has about an 80% up time and daring shout has about an 95% up time for that damage resistance. If an elite, mini, or boss crits me I drop instantly but I don't know too many classes that don't.
As an aside, recommendations to mitigate those boss crits? Other than don't get hit (lol, yes) do you other end game players find stacking more HP is better or more Deflect? Combination? I just find Defense caps too easily and another 1% of 50k dmg or whatever those crits are doing won't help.
Gung-ho, guts and glory.
GWF is a blast. We get in the thick of things, take a beating and get stronger for it. They think they got us on the ropes? UN-STOPPABLE!!! Sometimes I feel like Neo when he's fighting all the Smith's in the train yard. Massive pile of baddies on top of you and BOOM!!!! you get huge and go zerk on their asses.
PvP? Meh, don't know, don't really care. Balance I. PvP? Is that even possible or for the better of the Game, wanted. The Game, after all, is PvE and as each class is designed to work with the other classes and perform a certain role in a squad, then to put one class against another and say "have a fair fight" doesn't make sense. Even in modern warfare, to say "hey, you, Mr Elite Squad member, yer gonna go in the field and fight this radio operator one on one." Elite Ops weapons and skills vs a dude with a radio. Hyperbole? Yes. But both serve an important role in the squad. Radio guy may not be able to stealth kill an entire squad using his shoelace, but Elite dude doesn't know how an antenna works.
Stupid beer, I digress.
I absolutely love my GWF and also have a lvl 60 SW too.
I currently use a build similar to the Lazalia one posted in the thread for high dps crits with some personal tweaks for my own play style. I play often with a CW and TR and although they both easily out DPS me in certain situations, especially with AOE, its not by a huge amount. I think a lot of it has to do with how you spec your build and paying attention to make sure you stack your feats appropriately before you unleash on mobs.
I have never been out DPSd by another GWF on any dungeon and can often am in the top 2-3 of any group I am in while at the same time tanking and off tanking as needed.
For example in eLoL I typically take the 2nd scorpion and solo him because I can hold the aggro, take the damage, and deal the damage while everyone burns down the other.
And then we are going to be getting a big bump now with mod 6 next month too.
idk....they need to balance out this class more of what is meant to be....a heavy two handed sword fighter. When the title is said "Great Weapons Fighter" can we feel more of what it stands for, then seeming more of a paper guy geared up with a broom stick of a weapon damage. I do alright and all, but when there is a few classes easly can dps you seems a bit pathetic.... a heavy two handed sword should be swinging & cutting off enemies limbs and cut them wide open with ease technically. And yes i understand each class has weakness and down sides, and my class isnt meant to be some def class. I have looked through pc and read up on that our "Slam" will be lowered most likely as the pc version has, i mean if so there is other classes already that should be nerfed a bit. If anything this class needs a upgrade not to be nerfed, and if thats to be true and happens....be alot of upset gwf's. And if you guys arent going to be willing to give this class a bit of more of balanced out class of what it should be, how about make a "Berseker Class" with two handed axes that does what this class should be able to do? And give it the dps and damage that its titled for and its purpose. And if this class would "Conan" (Arnold Schwarzenegger), would he be as unbalanced as this???
I'm a level 60 GWF. From the many experiences I have had with other players, I think GWFs are often misunderstood. Other different classes hastily assume that GWF equals Tank. While there are GWFs that have built themselves as Tanks, some of us focus our attention on DPS. Many times I have gotten booted (with the typical heckles as well) from dungeons because players assumed that I was a tank. Although I (and other DPS-focused GWFs) can do some off tanking, I'm certainly not a meat shield. We are a hybrid class. We can do a bit of dps and tanking, but we really aren't good focusing on just one. Personally, I like having this ability. It allows me the flexibility to better support the team. If I see a player struggling with an enemy, I can slide right in to help. If another player is struggling with a boss, I can slide right in to to help. Unfortunately, other classes don't really see the potential of GWFs. However, this might change when Mod 6 rolls around.

I think Folk are figuring this out after reading the stuff online, I have had endless group invites and such over this weekend when folk check out my 20K GWF as I imagine they now understand what we are going to be again come mod 6 Nice to be popular rather than endless bootings from Dungeon (doesn't happen now I have my own Guildies to run with mind).
Roll on this weekend as I wont be on much following the update sadly
I like the gwf a lot! I don't consider it to be an off tank cause I find them kind of squishy, but not as squishy as say a caster class. I use lazalias build and it works pretty good as long as I don't take too much damage.
Nope not now, it was nerfed almost to the point of no return, its now back where it should be, I doubt any GWF will get kicked from dungeons now like we used to
