Long maintenance times on every week...

Why do we have to wait six hours every week for maintenance? What are you really doing? At the end we don't see any diffrence btw. I played lots of online games but max time for the maintenance was 1 hour, thats all.
If they passed that 1 hour, some of them give additional in game stuff-reward to players for "sorry" purposes. But in this game no one says anything. You say 3 hours then it become 4 then 5 then 6...??? and nobody in this forum complains for this unethical behaviour to customers.

How long will this take in the long run?

I mean do we have to wait long hours every week?

OR

Will this pain ends after module 6 released?

Having been a Sys Admin for over 20 years, I can tell that you don't work in IT. No worries. Suffice it to say that some maintenance tasks take longer than others. How long does it take your PC to install Windows updates? One month it could be 5 minutes while the next month it may take an hour. Your desktop PC is much less complex than a server (especially a server farm like NW) so it doesn't take long to do "Maintenance" on it.

Servers have a lot more intricacies than a desktop. I don't know which flavor OS the NW farm is running but, even if it's a Linux distro, it still takes time to install updates, run compatibility checks and cross-checks, reboot at least once, verify credentials, rebuild databases (which is probably why this one is taking longer than usual) and a lot of other little housekeeping tasks.

Go outside, watch a movie, read a book. Do something other than complain. This is a GAME. Downtime is to be expected and I'd rather have it scheduled once a week than whenever they felt like it.

I may wish to point out, too, that this is essentially a double maintenance. Both account server and game server are under maintenance this week. Also, what is usually a "routine" task can, with the slightest flaw, turn into a fiasco. I've heard stories over the years of people who were doing a routine maintenance on a server at work that, because the drives picked that very moment to fail, turned into a multi-day nightmare of reinstalling backups and the like.

They're not going to list everything they do in a maintenance. Those that purportedly do "one hour maintenances" are most likely applying only hotfixes and the like. Eventually those servers are going to have to come down for a more thorough maintenance.

Where technology is concerned, there's no such thing as "too big of an estimate". It's not "unethical" to overrun something clearly stated as an estimate. Stuff happens.

Like Scotty on Star Trek said (to paraphrase) - "Always double the estimated time".

I'd rather they do a maintenance every week and keep my accounts data nice and secure and backed up , or to put it another way a couple of hours wait is better than having to work another 18+ months if they didn't do maintenance and suffered some catastrophic server mishap and lost everything.

And are you sure that maintenance really takes 6 hours every week?

    It wasn't 6 hours this week ;)

Servers came up almost 2 hours early.

No I don't work in IT now but I know some. I am working in project management in another game company. Point is you have to learn to look at player perspective. It is not important what type of server you use, how much time you need or what type of problems you encountered. Players always look at the final product or service. The line between start to end is not important for them. players are waiting more than 3 hours and if they still get same bugs, performance problems or other problems that becomes tradition in this game, then I have to ask, what is really going on here. Though no one have to answer this.

Game is up, problems solved...until next week. Moderators can close this topic if they want.

    Scotty never said that.

Scotty said to Kirk: "It'll take eight hours, but you don't have eight hours, so I'll do it for you in two."
Kirk then asked Scotty "Do you always multiply your estimates by a factor of four?"
To which Scotty replied: "Of course, how else can I keep my reputation as a Miracle-Worker?"

Yeah: fantasy D&D fan often = science fiction Star Trek fan, so I could't resist. (...and I'm just funnin' you) :P

@OP: I suspect they also may be preloading some of the Mod 6 content to us also. Just a suspicion. But in reality it's mostly likely what Lews said: it's a multiple system update this week.
