I checked the bugs section and found nothing, so here goes;
Ever since the siege event my ability to email items has disappeared. At first I thought that the event was somehow to blame and this would be fixed, but it hasn't. Basically, I can't get rid of the cursor in the email I am composing, so when i hit "i" to open up my inventory, I just end up printing the letter "i" in the email. Am I missing something? I will admit to being technically challenged so if there is an alternate way to get my inventory open while composing an email I apologize. Any thoughts?

When in your mail interface from a Courier or Mailbox (cannot send items via the remote mail icon) you can either: Change to the tab that shows your list of mail, then press I for inventory -- or press the Bag icon on your screen to open your inventory.
The issue with the text cursor getting locked into the mail input fields is a bug but can also be worked around to deselect recipients input by clicking in the Subject input section and/or then on any other open screen or in the chat text areas.
Best advice, always close your mail while on the tab that shows your recieved mail, not the send tab. That way when you open your mail, it will be on your recieved mail tab and you can press "I" for inventory then click on the Send tab.
Mail was working perfectly before mod 2, Then they decided to make it better and ended up with disasster ...
Anyway, about your problem - problem is which window is on focus at the moment - it captures keyboard input. In order to open inventory, press alt, then click outside mail window (so it looses focus) and you can press "i". Alternatively you can click on bag icon. Just be careful, when inventory window is active/on focus and you want to delete mail item, if you press "del" you might end up discarding some item from inventory.
Best method I've found now that clicking the window frame no longer allows input to anything but the email client is to simply click to highlight your intended recipient or any email in the inbox then click your inventory key. After the inv window pops, then you can click the reply button to add items and send.
