Not sure what OP is talking about, the prices for peridots/minor resonance stones haven't changed at all. Also, I don't see any problem in using your AD/resources thrifty especially when you can predict something happening.

If peridots were at 70k as they have been for weeks before this week end was announced, you could pretty much earn almost 2x RP for the same amount of AD, making it easier to refine your artifacts. If blue gear was still at 500-600 AD each piece as it was before double RP WE was announced, you would be able to fast refine your artifact gear. Which is the point of a double RP week end.
AD can be earned in many other ways.
It's a matter of choice. You (community) want to use the double RP week end to increase your AD earn instead of increasing your refining potential. Your choice. But if you miss the chance to 2x refine your artifact gear cause you want more AD instead, then do not complain about refining process being costly. I don't think prices raised due to decreasing supply after increased demand, cause the went EXACTLY from roughly 700AD for 600RP, to 1400-1500 AD for 1200RP (or 1200AD for 1000 RP). Which is roughly the same AD/RP ratio.
It's quite simply adjusting prices to increase profit while leaving the same AD/RP ratio as before.
Profit over refining. It's a choice made by the community from my point of view.
People that use the AH to generate AD never complained about the costs to make a legendary something or R10s.
As a matter of fact it can never be expensive enough. And no it is not "the community" that determines the prices on the AH. It's done by the players that play with the economy - the community only determines the demand and the price they are willing to pay. And from the last 2x RP weekends those people know that they can generate >100% profite from the invested money.

This of course will only be purchasable with Zen and more than likely bound to account so as to prevent spiking of refinement material costs in the Ah. with double refinement now accessible at any time by any player there will be no need for complaint or revision of the economy based around this now vital component. Not to mention that cryptic rakes in the dough since they will no doubt implement even more legendary equipment which everyone will want to upgrade. Its basic business people.
Personally, I would gladly give cryptic $20 for a refinement booster that extends over the period of say 2 to 3 days for my account when used. this allows the casual gamers the ability to take advantage of double refinement when their schedules will allow, for a small fee of course. This has the effect of closing the gear gap between the hardcore gamers and the casuals.the only ones left out of this from making a profit, will be the auction sellers who increase the price of their refinement materials because of the events. What is the problem here? If you read the forums etc. you knew for weeks, that the event will be on 26th, so ppl bought RP, enchants etc., some at last. They have been busy, like me, to refine their equip.
Then there are some ppl, who cant plan for 30 minutes ahead. They think 'whoa, lets use this weekend to refine my gear'.
There seem to be more ppl of the second kind, bc with every event the prices raise bc. of last minute buyers. The cheap items get bought, then the more expencive ones. Ppl selling items see, ok the cheeapest price is X, lets go for a similar price.
If you have to pay more now, it is not the communities fault, but your own.
I will give some of my surplus to friends and sell the rest. I will not sell it at the price I bought it, but at the current rate. Thats economics. No one will come and say 'you paid 1,2 million AD for your cockatrice, bc. of the new event the prices dropped to 400k, here you go, we will give you 800k AD'. You win some, you lose some.

You make it sound like the COMMUNITY is a very small group of people thinking with similar thoughts. You can't control what people are doing. Prices of things go up because people are willing to pay that much if they want it. 22k x 3 m = 66k m = 1.1k h = 46 days of interrupt farming for refining points...
assuming one can play 3 hours a day ( 1/8 day ) we are talking about 46*8= 368 days of farming just for refinement points..... hurra

Prices of things go up because people are willing to pay that much if they want it. If you want to solve this problem, then you should have bought up all these RP in the market, then repost them for the exact same price this weekend.

let s do the math 4.7kk x 7 = 33kk assuming a drop of a peridot every 3 minutes you have to find 22000 drops.
22k x 3 m = 66k m = 1.1k h = 46 days of interrupt farming for refining points...
assuming one can play 3 hours a day ( 1/8 day ) we are talking about 46*8= 368 days of farming just for refinement points..... hurra
With the assistance of two 2xRP weekends, I got my artifact mainhand to legendary. Zero botted RP, zero RP purchased from AH. And it didn't take 1 year of farming, and it didn't take playing 24/7 to do it. It took about 3 months of semi-casual game playing.
