NWO intro......

This has probably been asked or threaded before many times, but my general topic for this thread is in regards to the beginner's stage and in-game entry to NWO.

How do you all feel about the intro area of NWO? Do you all think it deserves an overhaul and more difficulty or length to this player set-up stage?

I for one loved the CGI intro...it was beautifully done and felt epic in grenadier! Then we discovered the small minout-felt kinda generic and way to easy beginner's stage. The bridge sequence with our greater enemy was way to easy especially for a big sub-boss that towered over our character. This sequence felt rushed and slapped together.

"Yes; I know that most games use this area for fodder. training and tutorials, but come on!" I believe it needs some drastic overhauls in reference to length, difficulty and the interdependence on practical MMORPG tactics. The bosses should of been developed for reoccurring roles and not their death's as seen @ the end of this area. It all seems so flat and there was lackluster emphasis on the ideal of the game. The threat of real in-game character death should have been imposed and implemented. and the design concepts throughout should of displayed complete carnage and utter undead mayhem and the overall "cause and effect" of the presentation.

After returning to NWO from a small hiatus and rolling a new character I still felt the same about this area and had hoped something's had changed with updates.

Many other MMO's have kinda 'cheap' intros, but this one particularly felt shallow and it wasn't necessary.

This is how I would of personally altered or modified the entry points in order to make it more influential and grand.

Having your body wash ashore(dependent on character class or race)or caged in a cell by slavers or awoken by some rats scurrying across your body whilst on the floor of a cave and dependent upon specific character class or race you must first either escape, find your way out or battle for freedom against some slavers, enemies or denizen that inhibit and prohibit the character progress. On the way free others, find clues or basic lore and then defeat(DOCC or CR)some minor boss/es and then start the main intro, but at the first point of NPC encounter as seen in the original intro.

After.......

Maintain the similar principles of the original, but make it longer and provide lil more difficult undead encounters and a few more varieties. Forcing players to adopt defensive movements or shielding defenses for practice and tutorial reasons. Establish friendly NPC encounters that make the events more tragic and threatening. Having a few NPC's on the ground injured and having to heal them is not enough to assure that story propensity is accelerated. I would also of introduced a reaccuring field general in the midst to add as a protagonist that flees away with an important minor NPC before the bridge.

BRIDGE SEQUENCE - longer and addition of traps plus tougher and more numerous encounters.....the bridge should of been a choking point for the undead forces that were culminating against neverwinter. Also the addition of creatures flying down from above or crawling over the sides of the bridge; making it more dramatic. The BIG battle should of been epic as was the body of the beast...only defeated by using parties forcing players to adopt a party friendly atmosphere at the beginning. The character development of the tag along should have also been introduced so we could care about him more and felt a grip of sadness when he perished after yelling "VALLANDRA.....!!!!!!"

Well that is my observation anyways.

This was a discussion to be had in alpha/beta, sooo this never happened. It's all a moot-point now... Yeah, the intro sucked, but making a better one would've cost something else we wouldn't have now :D.

The intro is fine. Its quick and shows you the basics. Ive never looked back on ANY MMO and thought, wow that was a good intro.

The good news for the OP, at least, is that we can at some point expect it to be redone. Cryptic has a long habit of doing so. The intro in champions has been redone at least 3 times now. Star Trek is on its second intro, I believe. So, perhaps around year 3, we should be due for ours.

The only problem is if the intro is too long, it becomes frustrating to new players who "just want to get into the game".

The intro is long enough to establish the initial relationships in the game, and get things going. I don't think it needs to be any longer than that.
