I have had lots of problems with the chat user interface window, but there was one in particular that was getting rather frustrating and I wasn't really able to find a lot of support about how to fix it so I decided to try and figure it out myself.
Although you can have multiple tabs in the chat window, you may very well experience what I have dubbed "tabby tabby swap swap" :P Where the tab you are viewing suddenly changes when talking to NPC's, opening the main menu or basically any dialog at all. Sound familiar?
GM Support
I contacted GM for support and got the following response:
Hello,
Thank you for contacting us back. We do apologize for the inconvenience.
Upon checking on our resources, there is a possibility that this would be an issue with the installed and patch files, Below are the steps on how to select the force verify option on the game launcher.
- Start the game client
- Click on the Options button at the top of the launcher screen and check the Force Verify box and click the OK button
- The game client will now check the installed files and patch files it thinks are corrupt or out of date
After this process is done, try to get into the game again and see if the same issue(s) occur.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
This unfortunately did not fix the problem.
Diagnosis
The reason for this problem occuring seemed to be the little drop down button on the chat interface (shown below)

which instead of just changing the tab you are on it switches the tab you select to be at the start of the tab list. I have no idea why this causes this issue just that it does. My strong advice would be NOT to use it, it is better to just select the tab you want from the tab list (even if that means expanding the chat UI).
Fix / Workaround
Well to fix this all you need to do is:
1). Check in the chat channel configuration screen what tab is at the 1st position.

2).Now you have two options (I would pick the second as it is actually the lesser of two evils)
a). Use the Right click + drag drop to move that tab to the start of all the tabs in the user interface. The drag drop can be a bit troublesome but from what I can tell you need to drag and drop so that the tip of the mouse cursor is at the very tip of the green arrow (shown below).

Or
b). Use the drop down arrow on the chat interface to select that tab. This can be a bit of a pain as you can only select a tab that is not currently showing so it may take a bit of resizing of the window (shown below).

Final Thoughts
In both methods you basically need to make sure the tab that is at the 1st position in the chat configuration menu is also set to be the first tab in the chat UI.

I really hope this helps folks. It was driving me crazy until I sat down for a while and tried to figure it out.
