Fact Finding - Map change/Character change/Gauntlgrym Crash issue

Hello,

I'm starting this fact-finding thread to pin to help devs pin down what is causing the crashing that has started since Module 3 release and has worsened with Module 4.

If you are crashing when:
Changing areas/maps
Changing instances
Changing character
Logging out/Being logged out
Accepting a queue prompt
Leaving a dungeon

Then this thread is for you.

My hypothesis is that the crash issue is related to Gauntlgrym, and that having entered Gauntlgrym even once during the current client session will eventually cause your game to crash some time down the line (sometimes very soon, sometimes 10 minutes later).

The most common presentation of the crash however would be that you are actively participating in Gauntlgrym and you enter/leave Gauntlgrym PvP (Armories of Moradin) or a Gauntlgrym Dungeon (Fardelver's Crypt, Dwarf King Crypt).

What I'd like you to do thus is attach your dxdiag to your reply to this thread and a brief summary of how you experience the crash (similar to my description above, or different)

To attach your dxdiag:
Click Start -> Run -> type in "dxdiag" (without the "")
Then let it finish loading and click "save all information" and attach to your post as a txt file

Thank you :)

Crash is not directly related to Gauntlgrym - you can crash on other areas too, but if you go to Gauntlgrym, then chances to crash are much higher - close to 100%.

Would you mind posting your own dxdiag to help devs track this error?

Also, other people having this problem

Yes, I have had this problem... Even started a thread that was mostly ignored... http://nw-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?763791-Gauntlygrymm-crashes

In the past 2 weeks, I have probably played a GG PvP session about 20-25 times and roughly 70-80% of the time, I will crash on loading the area. One time I did not crash on loading, but after dying in combat, I crashed when reloading the entrance campfire. I am generally fine leaving GG. The person I play GG with for the most part is the exact opposite... He will not have a problem loading GG-PvP, but will crash many times when leaving it.

Edit: As for dxdiag... I'm not sure I can do it... I use Linux/WINE; normally in XP mode which would be DX9 if I am correct. (aka officially not supported; but I have tagged recent crash reports with "Crash loading GG-PvP")

I generally do not crash in the game... Going to Icewind Dale will start getting laggy after 45mins to 1 hour... But entering GG-PVP or swapping zones soon after is the only place I will crash on a regular basis.

Even though not officially supported, it would be great if you could post your dxdiag.

I have a suspicion that it is hardware related actually, as there are a few folks I play with who never have that crash issue (and I'm normally among those who just about never crash otherwise)

Devs are aware of the issue but need information on systems to be able to track it down

Here it is, but the only common things between my dxdiag and yours is realtec audio card and 16G RAM. I really think problem is not hardware related it is more likely gear/enchantment/dye/class or some other in-game item which causes problem. That is why some people have problem, others-not.

Sadly, getting dxdiag to actually run in WINE is like pulling teeth. However based on the assumption that you are looking for hardware information:

FYI I generally use wine using WinXP mode and it is using WINE version 1.5.29. It was installed using the PlayOnLinux script found here: http://pastebin.com/RihAd2qz I do have a second install that I rarely use with a more current version of wine in a Windows 7 environment.... If it helps, I can see if GG crashes in that environment as well.

Thanks for putting this up ghost. This happened to me about a week ago...what a disappointment to crash leaving PvP and not getting credit for the win, the GG Daily, GG Weekly or ability to go to DK...

Next time it happens to myself or others I'll be sure to assist in this bug hunt.

Could you and your teammates upload your dxdiags please? If you have crashed as a result of Gauntlgrym, this file would help (its not linked to Cryptic Error Reporting tool)

I have an additional crash in GG on top of the normal one - and today I added an new crash to the collection- since I kept crashing 5-6 times when trying to reload my gwf in Dwarven King Crypt. It was a client crash each time. Problem is fixed now after GG is over.

I have the client crash like everybody else. But i have a very frequent crash that almost always happens when I am on gwf or melee hr - and for some reason hardly ever when I am on my cw or ranged hr. It never happens in FC - but i had it happen 50 + times in DK - two times today which is the two runs i managed to do before not being able to reload the gwf.

This crash also happens in iwd and when the balrog (the big winged demon) spawns in the artifact quest (the classic artifact quest)- It makes my computer freeze - screen go black and a sound bite is like playing over and over again - just a short noise. Its about guranteed to spawn at the same spot in the artifact quest and dont matter which character im playing - i have to try the arti quest like 10 times before I manage to finish it - and I basically never manage to do one session of DK runs without it happening there once either. Since I need reboot each time its really annoying.

The problem came with mod 3.

Can you save that info as a txt file and then upload as a zip attachment? it makes the thread easier to navigate :)

    Thanks for supplying the information.

I think I found kind of solution for crashing problem - change graphics settings to use DX9 instead of DX11. At lest for me it solved problem - no crash yet since I changed it. Please try it and post result.

I'm not sure what has happened... but the last few days, I have not crashed at all loading/leaving GG-PvP. about 12 GG matches without a crash; and this is after about 22 out of 25 matches where I crashed while loading.

Im wondering if some kind of stealth fix went in...

EDIT: I did not change any system setting on my end either.
