Heck, that is a great number! It used to be over 13 million not that long ago!
I think the double RP weekend helped a lot - good job, Cryptic/PWE!
Not sure that's entirely deserved tbh. The the event was awesome and great for all of us. However, had they caught the exploit sooner we wouldn't be in this mess. I don't really thinking fixing their negligence is something to thank them for. Had the exploit not been widely posted in the forums and in game, would we have a continuing backlog? Quite possibly.

The double refinement XP event took the ZAX from where it would have been at around 5.5 milion ZEN backlog to around 4.5 million, so close to 500 million AD removed which is good.
Of course as frishter pointed out the entire 13 million backlog at one stage is probably due to exploited AD so it would have been much better had there been any basic systems in place to monitor the amount of AD increase on toons whose AD balance was increasing without any (or with minimum) AH sales. Also remember that the double refinement event merely hastened the decline in the exploited AD through AH cut and other sinks - which would otherwise would have taken an extra week at the most.
Yeah it sure is good to see the backlog almost gone , hopefully in future if we see the exchange backing up between about half a million to one million per day the developers will take action to find the source of the AD and put a stop to it , anyways , so much for all the people who demanded the exchange cap be removed or the backlog would never go away

Hopefully, but even better would be monitoring accounts ESPECIALLY 'free' accounts that somehow get large amounts of AD particularly if they aren't selling valuable items o AH, etc.....
Not really. The limit is on the ones buying zen, all the backlog means is that more people want zen for their ad than people want ad for their zen. Backlogged or not they'd have the same sales. Though it is a little more complex on that due to psychology and what people feel is worth it.

can't buy zen with AD = have to buy with real $$
Every Zen came with $.
Lesser backlog means people are buying more Zen.
