I just started playing this game last sunday and really enjoy it. Love the DnD lore being an old PnP player. I spent $60 the day I started to get bags, bank space, a mount a few keys, just to support the devs. Its something I tend to do on most games I play that dont have a sub.
That being said, I was shocked at some of the prices of things. I understand that the company is in this for profit but they dont have to make it all on one person. I just think its better to make $5 of half a million players than $50 off 100.
I personally dont mind spending money on things I enjoy and make a decent living day trading but alot of people just dont have the cash to spend that much on a game. I mean really $40 for a mount? WOuldnt it be better to say charge $15 and make them BTC?
Understand Im not *****ing, Im just putting in my 2 cents worth. Considering that Im 60 now and need two of the wards, its really got me considering if this is a game I want to play long term and continue to invest money in when there are so many other games out there.
After saying all that, let me finish by saying that the game is truly beautiful, combat is amazing and the voice acting is good. Its a well made game with lots of potential.

Welcome to NW! I am a very old school PnP player myself - started in middle school in the 1970s. :)

But I am not a pro here - just a casual gamer who plays roughly 1-2 hours a day.

Enjoy!

Yeah but the reality is that extra 5% is such critical part of the game, from companions to mounts, to bringing your character to the pinnacle of its effectiveness. When you compare this to other free to play games, or subscription based games its just not competitive, people will just not see the point in levelling in a game which will either financially cripple them to just enjoy getting their character to the most effective they can be.

I don't mind the grind, but those prices are just obscene in the current climate of austerity that is occurring in the world following the 2008 crash. It is just TERRIBLE business sense to price your items at this level.

This is not going to stop me from playing, but like any good democracy I just wanted to voice my opinion on a change which would not only benefit Perfect Entertainment financially but improve their PR as well.

However, I am sure this point has been flogged to death, so it will just sink beneath the waves like so many posts before it

I agree that many prices are too high, but I disagree that anything in the Zen store is critical to playing at all. The overwhelming majority of items in the Zen store are convenience or vanity items. In fact, I cannot think of anything in there that is required to play at all.

Now, what one player perceived as a "need" in terms of enjoyment is debatable, but nowhere are said items ever mandatory - no more so than it is mandatory to buy the best/most expensive keyboard, mouse, or other peripheral, to play the game in the first place.

Not sure how many times we need to say it, but again, the prices are just too much for this game. I would love to see the game flourish and grow, but the time/money constraints are way too deep to let it do so. I'd take more pride in and have more fun with a solid, growing community than having my perfect/rank 9s/9X artifacts that 90%+ of people will never reach in the game. Not to mention, I'd be willing to spend more money on the game. Ever since I got ~ rank 7 and between lesser/normal weapon enchant (pre-artifacts), I simply pretty much straight up stopped putting money into the game. I went from having the mindset that I would invest in the game at a similar rate as I would a membership for other games, but then I realized how little it actually gets you towards end game. Since then I've just made everything through various methods in game. I would really like to start spending a little more on the game again to advance things a bit and support what I enjoy, but at this point it just isn't worth it.

the problem is

this game has been out for quite a while now

and there has been no clear signs of them struggling to make a profit out of this game

now, don't get me wrong, i'm with you guys 100%, the zen prices really break this game for me, especially trying to get epic mounts or epic enchants...and believe me, i've bought zen, and i would like to buy more to support these devs....but their prices become ridiculous...the worst offender to me is that you can only deposit through $10 on arc

but why would they lower their prices if it's been working for them and bringing them profits?

other than to be "nice"

unfortunately that's not how the world works

Wel that's kinda the thing, it doesn't work for them. No one would buy those wards for as much as they cost right now. But even if they did, coalescent wards have no business being in the Zen Market in the first place. Now they've made so that the Zen Market is the only place to get them reliably. The weekly coffee is a joke, and I the auction house is getting ridiculous. I would never buy wards from the Zen Market or from the auction house with the current prices. Everything is getting more and more expeive, and anyone that agrees to pay these prices contributes to the downfall of the economy and of the game.

while I am the first to criticize whenever cryptic does a HAMSTER, I think coal wards are about right in price, getting perfect enchantment should be the last thing you could do on the game, not the first thing you should buy to be able to play it properly. if they can fix the ad-zen exchange, getting one coal ward will be more of a "week of work" than "impossible to get".

So instead of focusing on the price of the coal ward, focus on the overal market today being played by a few players.

That said, everything on this game have to be farmed forever and the grind is perpetual, if you cant keep up with it every day you are probably better off expending some ad to cut your farming time.

I can see a lot of HAMSTER cryptic did (not giving respec tokens after m3, extremely unfair companions passives allowed in pvp, bad overload system AND all black ice set powers being the same HAMSTER).

BUT the price of coal wards in the range of 500k ad(1000zen) is not that bad, since you dont need that much perfect enchantments (1 or 2 is enough for most builds) and can easily trade between characters and even sell it to recover the invested money/ad. think about, on companions, the money is lost forever with that character and whatever retroactive changes cryptic decides do make to it.

if you are a new player you will feel alienated and that's bad, it should be up to the community to try to be cool with the newcomers AND make a stand on the unfairness and maybe demand that cryptic make a tier level of lvl 60 players for pvp.
not forgetting that weapons and armor enchantments tiers should count to GS as they can be more important than 1-4k points on stats.

Perhaps what is called for a an increase in the success chance for lesser enchants, so that they become something that is reasonably attainable by your "average" player, using just preservation wards.

I think coal wards are about right in price

Personally I think $10 for a lesser and $150 for a perfect is far from being "about the right price". Especially when you used to be able to get lessers for free more reliably, if not then it would just cost 100k AD instead of 5 times that. The new system initially gave us a benefit at the higher end, but that was changed as they slowly made the zen store the only viable way to get them.

Other things bad with the system is the annoyance of refining artifacts, no efficient way to upgrade barkshield and plaguefire enchantments, and normal fey blessings costing almost the same as a greater fey blessing in the old system. I honestly can't see why anyone would defend it.
