Fortunately I got both pieces on all my characters before the nerf. It's simply mind boggling that they would nerf the drop rates. Personally, I didn't have problems getting "credit" before, but still found the drop rate to be way too low. So the geniuses decide to make it easier to get credit but nerf the drop rate. Mind boggling. I would have UPPED the drop rate. Probably even doubled it. It took me about 20-30 runs/per piece/per character even before the patch to get them. I haven't seen 1 piece drop post patch.

Same here, I got lucky and got my MH and Glove for my GWF the last night before patch. I did manage to get gloves on all my characters prior to patch (super lucky I think getting my GF glove) and I got a MH for my CW prior to patch, can't remember when but I think it was about 1 or 2 days prior to the patch that lowered the drops.

Since the patch and new drop rates I haven't seen a single piece of BI gear, I have not even gotten a single purple crafting mat. I did however get the elk tribe off hand for my CW (the class that it belonged to on top of that) but woopee I'm decked in HV gear so that is a waste (gave it to a companion since it was so hard to get instead of salvage) and eventually i'll have a full BI set (assuming I can keep doing the rep daily for another 10 - 15 or so days).

Personally I think the new drop sucks, sure if it was nerfed i'd be OK with that if I was hitting that bracket and getting some purple mats out of it (having to buy the stupid things off AH as i've only ever gotten 3 one of which came from the dwarf queen random quest). So far the most i've gotten from the new drops is 2 blue mats instead of 1 (I find that offensive) and most of the time its green HAMSTER with a smattering of ice 35 - 180.

As of now I have yet to be able to solo anything on any of my toons other than low end heroics. The high end ones (blue) pretty much kill me right off on my CW, my GWF can hold its own pretty OK but still dies not long into starting it. Unless of course others eventually join.

What I hate most about this system is I am not sure if I suck or if I am unlucky.

I can't recall another game where it was so unclear which of those was the case (suck vs unlucky). In DD you know. You suck or you are unlucky. It is clear. In other PvE games, it is clear. In the rest of NW it is clear. In IWD, who knows. You might suck. You might be unlucky. How to know?

I'm really tired of this IWD gear
I'm like a week after gaining 350 rep.
Spending hour or more a day on encounters, and did got only one purple - Elk weapon, no gloves or MH on my TR
I'm over 130 major and 40 epic encounters, lots with great success.
Guess i'm totally unlucky.

In my experience - if you get 180 BI from an major or epic encounter (except BID and motherlode) you are unlucky.
if you get less BI from a major (3-5 players) or epic (6-10 players) encounter you did not contribute as much as necessary to qualify for a possible purple drop.
It's very, very easy to get 180 BI from epic encounters, it takes some effort to get 180 BI from a major encounter. The longer you are alone there and do something, the better your chances to get 180 BI (="great success" message from a major encounter)

These are just my experiences, they might be wrong, though.

I got a Rhemoraz Fang from BID yesterday, together with 400 BI. So I assume that you can just as well get purple drops from BID as well if you get a 400 BI reward.

I know them feels, bro.

I have done literally hundreds of HEs, including shedloads of BIBs. Many with "great success". Only once have I got a purple gear drop.

Actually, it was indeed the hammer from the BIB, and I didn't even get "great success" when it dropped- so much for folk wisdom and the conflation of correlation and causation, eh?

Anyway, the RNG hates me, I have done Valindra's Tower hundreds of times, too, without winning the offhand. Lost it a few times to pointless lollercopters who then asked where the mainhand dropped (and died instantly at the start of every air phase), which is just peachy. Gently caresss that RNG.

Its become impossible for me! I do Beholder as much as I can queing for Dominations from his spawn and I never can get anything. You can't really tank Beholder, and I cannot do enough DPS to him to meet whatever requirements to get the main hand...

I started using /lfg for Beholders. I ran Miracle Healer, with Sunburst/Healing Word/Astral - Got my mainhand in 2 days that way. I was getting 180 BI each time, which seems to say 'You qualified for a high end reward but didn't get it'.
No longer playing Neverwinter.
