The Devs gave us the shaft on Pre-Active Bonus bought companions

The forum Moderators will have you believe that the developers have considered instituting a "unbinding" token for companions eight time a day for the past three months. Furthermore, they claim that the way the developers have provided us a way to rehash our companion purchases is through the sales and discounts they've been offering for zen market companions.

THIS IS A HORRID COP OUT AND I'M NOT BUYING IT.

First, STOP CONFUSING THE ISSUE HERE! I'm not saying any companion ever bought should be able to be unbound for reuse. I'm saying that they gave those of us that purchased companions BEFORE THE ACTIVE BONUS patch the shaft! That would be like the Devs coming out with a new paragon path and not providing any respec token to those who have grown beyond Lv. 30, or whichever level you choose your paragon path on.

I figured they gave us the respec tokens because they understood that the decisions on what powers/features/dailys our points were allocated to were done under false pretense as we had no choice in the matter. That was the reason that players that have only reached lv. 15 for example don't get a respec token as they have not gotten the opportunity to make ill-informed decisions on how they spec their At-Will, Encounter, Features, and Daily abilities.

Thus, un-binding a companion for reuse or trade/resell should be limited to only those companions that were purchased before the ACTIVE BONUS feature became integrated. Any companion bought thereafter should have their participation forever bound to the characters that equip them. However, the Epic Honey Badger and Uncommon Hawk Companions I purchased before there was any notion that ACTIVE BONUSES were on the horizon were purchased during a time in which I had no choice in considering which ACTIVE BONUSES jived best with which character. I chose them based on how their attacks collaborated with my playing style. Now that first character of mine has both of those companions collecting dust in my idle companion inventory. I built my TR character referenced in this post with Life Steal as my primary focus. Now at lv. 60, with the 28% damage dealt as healing due to my life steal stat along with my upgraded Epic Ioan Stone of Allure, and endless consumption boon that turns my 28% into a 84% Life Steal from time to time, my TR never get her health anywhere near 35% of her max HP of 23,000+.

Anyone who thinks I would have ever considered buying a Honey Badger for my TR would have to be a MOE-RON! The Honey Badger would be a great asset for my new GWF character that I'm building at the moment. I've focused very little on his Life Steal and have purchased companions that give special effects on taking damage. The Honey Badger would be key to that character's companion roster. Forget letting anyone unbind any companion at any time, just let those players that made decisions about binding companions before they could weigh the ACTIVE BONUSES in their consideration, the option to rethink their choices. It's just as unfair as releasing a new paragon path and not giving Lv. 60 characters a respec token to reconsider how they would like to develop their character. After the ACTIVE BONUS patch, who cares, if you made a dumb choice in binding a companion to a ill-suited character then oh well, deal with it. But don't impose poor decisions that the players will have to live with forever when their decisions were made based on the ill-informed selection of companions that were available before the ACTIVE BONUS system was put into place.

That just makes the developers look shady! They offered their surreptitious inventory, knowing well that the products as they were, are not provided with full disclosure. It's like selling me a TV then when I open the box and read the manual it describes the CD drive in the back and reveals that the screen is just a really bad mirror, and the TV I just bought only has working speakers and is in fact a CD player in the shape of a TV. The only companion I ever have summoned is my Enhancing Stone Companion.

I was impressed to find that the Devs provide re-spec tokens for those of us who have spec'd our character beyond the paragon path choice level. Then they slap me in the face with their approach to rectifying companion purchases before the integration of the companion's active bonuses. This is the group of players who are getting shat upon. It's basically a scam that they pulled off by giving no forewarning of the companion's ACTIVE BONUS evolution was up and coming because they didn't want player's to hold off on purchasing zen market companions. I'd be willing to bet that if they limited the ability to un-bind companions to those companions purchased before the ACTIVE BONUS patch date would account for only about 15-20% of the total companions purchased in the history of the game. I get that by adding the active bonuses, the devs increased the desire to buy companions and shifted the demand curve up, but they should still be considerate of those players that got cheated in that process. AGAIN, FORGET THE COMPANIONS PURCHASED AFTER THE ACTIVE BONUS FEATURE CAME INTO PLAY. ONLY MAKE AMENDS WITH THOSE PURCHASED BEFORE THE ACTIVE BONUS PATCH.

So, forum Moderators, explain to me how this has been hash, rehashed, and re-rehashed by the developers. I'm willing to bet that it never occurred to them that there is a separation between players who made a bad choice on their own accord and players who simply made a choice, one that was later coerced into becoming a bad decision when this group of player's only fault was not being able to see into the future. You can't sell something, completely change the essence of it's utility, and expect not to have to make amends to those of us who got cheated so that you can increase the appeal of your inventory. IT'S JUST NOT RIGHT. Now explain to me how I'm wrong.

I'm going to close this down as a nonproductive rant, and add the point that moderators are NOT--I repeat, ARE NOT--official PWE staff. Anything they say carries no more weight or "official" response than the response of any other poster that isn't staff.

Therefore, their statements should not be construed in any form as "official".
