Hey, semi-inexperienced player here. Just recently started playing on a new computer (after struggling through 50 levels of low fps on a laptop) and my quest trails won't display. I'm using max video settings, tried pressing Z, typing out /ToggleGoldenTrail the whole nine. Anyone have a suggestion?
The quest you have as your active quest may not have a quest trail (individual quests may have disabled the trail for some reason) or it may have a starting point in a different zone (this will sometimes block the trail from displaying until you get to that zone).
I'm not sure what the issue is if this happens with a completely new character in the tutorial.
This might happen occasionally, here's the reasons for it:
Common: some quests have the trail turned of intentionally (especially Foundry quests, mine are turned off, for example)
Common: if your goal is in a zone, some will have a "goal bubble" where once you reach the edge of that bubble, the trail will turn off as your goals are located (somewhere) inside that bubble. The "bubble" being the blue ovals that appear on your zone map and mini-map.
Uncommon: if your quest goal is located in another, separate part of the same zone, the quest trail can break.
Example: in the Caverns (EDIT: I meant "Chasm") zone there are three parts: the main area, then a "teleport" to area two and a "teleport" to area three. When you've completed the zone in area three and sent back to Sgt. Knox, the quest trail that leads back to the first teleport you need to reach in order to head back is broken; it just does;t appear. I suspect it's because the trail does;t know where to point to (because waypoint is the exit "gate" back to the overland map) - and this requires two "jumps" (teleports) inside the same zone. Once you take that first teleport back to area two, the trail starts working again.
Very uncommon: the digital "ground" is just chaotic enough that the quest trail takes the wrong path which can make it appear invisible when it's not (it slips under the ground, for example).
When in doubt, press the Z key, then press it again. Very, very uncommon is accidentally turning it off (or something in the software glitches it to be turned off) - though I've only had this happen maybe a couple times in my year of playing so far.

Make sure your active quest should have a trail. It's hard to specify exactly without knowing what you're doing.
Go someplace on a map where there is a clearly defined path or road. There are many places on maps where the trails don't show up at all.
Hit 'z' and wait for a few seconds. If you toggle it quickly, you can end up turning it off again before the breadcrumbs show up.
If you've tried all of that or it didn't work your best bet would be to contact support.
