Reslotting Powers at a Keystroke?

I don't know if other classes have this need, but CW's constantly need to reslot powers as you move from battle to battle. We have a wide range of powers, and because we are so squishy we need to tailor our selected powers to the requirements of the battle/encounter in question.

So from my perspective, there desperately needs to be a way for me to hit a key and have the appropriate set of powers slotted for the next battle. Is there a way to do this?

When you reslot a power there is a cooldown delay, so it isn't like you can unbalance combat by switching powers on the fly. You switch powers, you have to wait 6-7 seconds to use the power. But what is a problem is bringing up my character page, switching to the powers tab, and dragging powers one at a time to the power tray every single time encounters require it.

I don't know if other CW's have noticed, but the party won't wait for the CW to prepare for the battle. You start slotting stuff and when you close the window, they're gone, probably with activated mobs they ran past waiting to eat you alive.

The best solution then would be the ability to have "power sets" that CW's could switch to as needed. The ability to save 4 to 6 power configurations would be perfect. I usually find in a single mission I may need all of these configurations:

Area coming up has cliffs? Hit the key that puts Shield and Repel on my power bar.

CC next? Hit the key that puts AS, CoI, Icy Terrain, Steal Time, and Shard on my power bar.

Single Target no-AoE battle up next? Hit the key that puts Ray of Enfeeblement, Chill Strike, Icy Rays, and Shield on my power bar.

Run through many rooms next and drag the mobs with us? Hit the key that puts Icy Terrain and Shield on my power bar.

I get the concept of wanting to force the players to plan ahead and think out their strategy, that's great, but CW's IMO have a unique need to switch up powers to be most effective on a per-battle basis.

Most CWs will run with the same set-up through a dungeon and only changing out powers for bosses, which are natural pause in the action where you can take the time to change up. PUGs run through dungeons, it's what they do. There is an assumption that everyone wants to do so when you join a PUG. PUGs aren't there to actually fight, only get the loot. To avoid that form your own group and state you don't want to rush up front. Another good way to go is join the Legit channel.

Hmm, I don't see it really. There's a only a few situations when I change out powers in PvE on my CW, typically:
    • Single target nuking, eg, Valindra
    • Specific CC setup for a fight, eg, Icy Terrain on Draco

That's kinda it. I usually just roll with the same AoE nuke setup otherwise, possibly switching around my dailies, which I do while using auto run anyway.

If you want a group that's willing to wait, then as orden said, run with your own party or a bunch of players that think likewise.

We need the ability to swap skills with hotbars or something

That would be nice from a GF's point of view as well. There's different ways of tanking mobs and tanking single enemies. It'd be nice to be able to switch on the fly.

I don't see it happening, though. And it's not like the game is terribly hard as it is. Everybody's managed so far with the current set up.

Every class I've played has this problem, CW less so as mentioned, either adds or boss setup and usually just encounters. Other classes usually requires to change class features and at-wills as well which is a hassle.

Having to go to Powers tab and scrolling/searching for powers and dragging them onto the hot bar is a good 20-30 seconds and there's a cool down after placing the powers which makes changing powers in combat difficult.

Give me a second hot bar with 3 different setups that I can switch with a hot key and I can live with the cool down while switching in combat.

Just so you know, you can skip a small step by hitting P

Personally, I use the same PvE powers all the time, unless I need to single target a boss, or push stuff off a cliff.

    In PvP however...

PUGs run through dungeons, it's what they do.

I wish that were the case, but it isn't. It seems as though it's become more or less standard practice among all groups to skip two or three chambers ahead and then fight the huge mob that was dragged along, repeat until end of dungeon. This often includes dragging trash mobs into one of the boss fights as well. The last time I was doing some PK runs during DD time, I had to beg my group to stop before 2nd boss fight so that I could put Repel in Tab because otherwise there would be no way to kill the gigantic mob that had been dragged along up to that point. And the team wasn't full of a bunch of PUGging idiots either.

If this is going to be the new strategy from now on, then yeah I would like to see some sort of macro or shortcut button that you could use to quickly replace encounters, or the whole hotbar, at once.

    Just a tip:

If you put down a portable altar, you can switch your powers with no cooldown.

Ya you could run with legit. Then you can have a higher failure chance then pugging. People need to quit suggesting the legit channel as the be all end all solution.

Proof required, as that seems to go against my experience in several MMOs.

In almost every case self-selected groups, such as channel or guild parties, do better than PUGs if only because people know that with less anonymity their own reputation becomes more important.

Ahh, yeah...I'm part of the problem there. Especially in PK, I'll just run from boss to boss and kill everything at the boss fight.
