Let's face it. Diablo 3 at launch sucked. I only have to mention Error 37, and most of you know what I'm talking about. Then there's the dreadful auction houses and the lack of any kind of interesting loot, and you have a big problem on your hands. I dare say it was one of the most disappointing games in history.
But that was then. This is now. The first expansion is just around the corner, and because of that, the whole game has been severaly updated. The auction houses will be gone once the expansion released, and because of that, the whole loot-system has changed a lot. Back at launch, I went from start to well into Act 3, and found three or four legendary items in total. Not one I bothered use. Now? I've spent the last two days going through the entire game from start to finish, and I've found tons of legendary stuff - and most of them, I actually use. Even simple magical stuff are decent too, and I find a lot more stuff for my class.
The skill system is still the way it was, but the skills have changed a bit. Mostly just small updates and balances, but I often change around skills because I want to, not because I have to. Skills I got at lvl 1 are still in use at lvl 40, but only because I want to. It adds a lot of variation to the game, and although I had three monks in my party, every one of them had different skills, despite all being the same level.
The whole difficulty setting has changed a lot, too. Now we don't have the usual Normal, Nightmare, Hell and Inferno difficulties. Instead, we can change difficulty settings whenever we want - more or less, at least. That means we don't have to go through the boring Normal-mode to get to the fun stuff. We can go there whenever we want. Yay for that.
I found the game on Normal too boring in act 2, so I changed it to the next difficulty. Then increased it yet again in Act 3, and I'm about to start the game over with the fourth difficulty setting. Until I reach lvl 60, when I change it up yet again to the final difficulty setting.
And know what? I found the game dull at launch, but now, it's back on top as the best ARPG out there today. Hail to the king, baby.
(and the best part? all this is in the game right now - for free. You won't get the fifth act, Adventure mode and the Crusader if you don't buy the expansion, but you do get the fun game mechanics with the vanilla game. So if you are a fan of Diablo, do yourself a favor and try it now. Let launch be launch. That's ancient history.)

I highly recommend the console version over the PC version, due to the added free movement and dodge mechanics, aswell as drop rate adjustments.
You really should try it. It's a whole new game now. Did you stick around when they added paragon levels? Those are account-wide now. And as for giving out the expansion for free, what about all of us who actually enjoyed the game from the start? Should every company who has a bad launch give out free stuff? What about every single MMO in existence? What about SimCity? For that matter, what about the sold-out PS4s and XBones? Should everyone who pre-ordered one, but didn't get one to to shortage, get a bunch of games for free? Heck, I got a flat tire on my car yesterday. Does that mean I should get free gas? Kids today expect far too much free stuff. Wasn't it bad enough with all the complaining about compensation in Marvel Heroes, when the servers had to be rolled back a few days? "Neverwinter is down for the day? I want compensation!" It doesn't make any sense.
yes, i was there for paragons and i was actually playing D3 until i started playing NWO... so well done, PWE for making me quit D3.
seriously now... i have checked it out... got the expansion and i'll wait until it comes out. the patch list... omg the patch list is immense! i have one level 60 for each class and i must say... pretty impressive. the loot drops, i cannot complain about. i already have seen inna's set pants drop as well as a puzzle ring and some other meh items. overall, not too shabby. i take back my statement about them needing to give the expansion for free. i think they've definitely earned my pre-order.
As for NWO, I love it, but got bored after reaching 60. I've done all dungeons except Castle Never, and I'm not interested in grinding for hours to get stuff I don't need. Though I do look forward to module 3, and will definitely check it out. But the best part? I don't have to worry about choosing between Diablo 3 or NWO. I got both, so I play the one I'm in the mood for. Diablo 3 or NWO? Both.
But at the very least I'll finish getting my Demonhunter to 60, I've been holding off on it ever since I heard that Paragon levels are going account-wide (my Wizard already unlocked them, so I feel I'd be wasting valuable Paragon XP playing my DH before the change happens).
Then it's onwards to Westmarch and the Angel of Death!
As for grinding, I see what you mean. But then again, NWO has far too much grinding as well. The whole endgame here is grinding the same stuff over and over and over again. That's why I got bored and quit for now. Module 3 sounds interesting for a while, but I'll probably be back beating the HAMSTER out of that Angel of Death before long.
The weird part is at launch, I sort of hated Diablo 3. Now I'm considering leveling up another barbarian to 60 just for the achivement. Kudos for that, Blizzard.
Yeah, I know what you mean.
I kinda like the way they did the campaigns on NWO though, on most MMO's you run the same dailies over and over again each day - here at least they have them in tiers and there is a randomness to which dailies you get every day, it doesn't stop them from getting boring eventually, but it helps at least.
And of course I also tend to try the Foundry quests frequently for some variety. And lately I've been tinkering with my own Foundry project.
