id say if only single target rapid, hindering shot or binding arrow, commanding for debuff and buff, disrupt, and fox shift and don't forget aimed shot/strike if theres no dots flying around.

No rain of arrows? I've been running rain, hindering and then depending on the kind of boss (fully ranged or not) fox shift or commanding shot.

My boss setup is as follows:

    Hybrid Build

At-Wills: Rapid Shot (no tank) or Aimed Shot (with tank), Split Shot
Encounters: Marauder's, Rain of Arrows, Hindering
    Dailies: Forest Ghost, Disrupting Shot
Features: Twin-Blade Storm, Aspect of the Pack (no other ranger) or Aspect of the Lone Wolf (two rangers)

Rule #1 - Let the tank get a head start, you're going to pull a lot of dps threat here. If you're tanking, disregard Rule #1.

Strategy: Lead with Marauder's Rush, hit Hindering Strike (amazingly most bosses don't seem to be immune to this root), swap to ranged, hit Marauder's Escape, drop Rain of Arrows, Aimed Shot until your rotation resets. If you get sucked into add patrol then use Split Shot to clear the trash and Marauder's Rush / Hindering Strike combo to clear elites.

If you're tanking then same strategy, but don't escape out. Stay in melee and dodge around the boss, trying to stay on his back as much as possible to avoid the frontal AoE. Use Escape as a dodge to avoid large 360 AoE, then Rush back in before he can chase. Rapid Strike until combo resets.

    Ranged Build

At-Wills: Aimed Shot or Rapid Shot (if you have Prime Critical), Split Shot
Encounters: Split the Sky, Rain of Arrows, Commanding Shot
    Dailies: Forest Ghost, Disrupting Shot
Features: Aspect of the Pack, Twin-Blade Storm

Strategy: Lead the fight with Stag Heart and Throw Caution. Dump Split the Sky on the tank, then Commanding Shot / Rain of Arrows on the boss, Aimed Shot until combo resets. Make sure you keep Throw Caution up, it gives you a pretty steep damage boost. If you get sucked into add patrol then drop Split the Sky on the toughest group and Split Shot to clear the trash. Watch for Singularities, dropping Rain of Arrows on it is a huge damage spike. Keep Stag Heart active whenever possible.

im pretty sure the best boss single target encounter setup is rain, fox, thorn. plus disruptive with storstep for more spamming.

then elminster has a very good point about rapid / aimed if u got a tank that keeps agro and dont have a ****ton of adds bothering aimed if not rapid due to the interrupts.

I don't like Thorn because it takes time to build up and if the boss moves it retargets onto the closest target instead of the one you want. Commanding is roughly the same damage boost, but it dumps it all at once and you don't have to worry about retargetting. It also lasts for 15 seconds, more than enough time to get your full ranged combos down field.

For regular trash clearing or bosses that don't spawn adds (or you can keep them off the boss) then thorn is nice for the continuous damage, but the debuff is still the same.

its true that that setup is for more inmobile bosses or ones u can keep the agro on to keep em where u want (not so much for teleporters). I prefer thorn because of the continous damage the debuff is the icing. Bascially since thorn attacks closest mob u just throw it under him and try to keep him there.

and basically if the enemy is a jump-to or teleporter rain of arrows wont work as well.

such as ct, or certain parts of tos boss.

yeah i know, thing is dont run t1/t2s with the ranger since very long ago its bascially just cn/vt/mc and dk. And there is few mobile bosses there..... basically just mcs first one, and i dont usually even change skills for the subbosses anyways.

So that skillset is perfect for most of them except valindra where ill sacrifice rain for marauders for the mobility to reach them hands or casquets. ( would be the same in fulmi if it wasnt for them cw and gwf doing their thing there)

I actually never use marauder and fight hybrid except in rare instances where you need that much movement. Leather =/= cotton and with some defensive stats you can stay within dodge range of the fight. Ask a TR. This gives me 2 more encounters to use. Ooops maintenance done got to go.
