Email addresses leaked?!

I no longer play but in the last 24 hours have received 2 email messages sent to addresses that I ONLY used for this game from a 3rd party.

The only 2 possible conclusions I can come to are that either

a) Perfect World has been hacked and part of the customer database stolen

or

b) They have passed on details of inactive accounts to 3rd parties.

    Or you computer has contracted a keylogger. Or you autosaved them to your browser and someone else used them.
    Don't be so quick to judge.

    Why don't we start by asking anyone else if this has happened to them before we jump to conclusions?

    I have 4 accounts so 4 email addresses being used. I have not received any advertising emails from 3rd party sites. I only get the emails from Cryptic/PWE

    I'm a computer systems administrator - so I'm very hot on computer security. Trust me, if any of my computers had been infected in any way I'd know about it.

    Perhaps I should also issue a warning that the emails may be an out-and-out scam rather than just a private server, so I would advise anyone else that gets one to be extremely careful. The domain name has been very carefully chosen to look legitimate and the email professionally done to look as though it comes from Neverwinter.

    I have four accounts and have just checked all four email addresses and I haven't received anything, have you filled in any of those free zen offers recently? As far as the private server goes stay well clear , if you risk signing up to and downloading anything from such people you are asking for your accounts to be stolen.

    PWE and Cryptic does not give your contact information to third party organisations.

    There's a number of more logical and likely explanations for you to receive e-mails other than the PWE/Cryptic Servers being compromised. If you would like to report any suspicious activity please use the support ticketing system.

    The forums are not the place to discuss such concerns.
