I have long been of the opinion that any game which has some form of gambling has always made for a much more enjoyable experience. Whether it be a mini-game casino in console RPGs or coliseum battles in MMORPGs. I think that in Neverwinter there is a huge platform to explore in regards to PvP Arena battles. I would like to see battles scheduled cyclically and available for any number of players currently in a party. With each cycle there should be upcoming battles posted where the players can create the battle conditions they would like to fight with and the challenges would remain open or switch to upcoming in: with a timer counting down to the arena battle once a challenger has accepted. If the masses of Neverwinter could view the upcoming battles and place bets on who they think will win. The odds should be calculated as the bets come in giving the larger pay-out to the team with the least bets. Now I know that for clerics, the 1v1 platform is a bust, but I would like to see 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, and 5v5 battles as the cleric dynamic will become more so important. I think it would also provide some unpredictability with the outcomes of the 2v2, 3v3 battles. At what point would a cleric benefit more than an additional attacker?
I think that the arena battles should be very open ended for those who create the arena challenge. They should be able to include up to 3 battle items that will be provided in every participants hot keys and usable only while in the arena instance or they could opt for no items to be made available. Eventually the developers of the game should be able to aknowledge the cream of the crop in each tier of the arena and invite the best of the best to compete in a Kingdom sponsored tournament in which the victors will receive exclusive items not available elsewhere, as well as a very prestigious title for their character.
The betting aspect should be open ended as well. It should allow players to bet Gold, Astral Diamonds, and even Zen, in a perfect world. Yet I know that the game devs will never set up an opportunity to get free zen. I did like 12 of those surveys for supposedly "free zen" and I've yet to see Zen one for my efforts. Thanks a lot scam-apotomus, I didn't need those hours anyway! Still the house could take a cut of the winnings and ensure that they stifle the economy the same as they do with the Auction House and Zen exchange. Plus it would be great to have that to keep you entertained while awaiting your daily quests to reactivate. I hope to see folk getting behind me on this. It's something I try to push in all the forum for MMORPGs I play. The inspiration stems from a game I played years back in which the game would automatically create multiple teams consisting of automated bots that fought out a simulation and I found that 60% of my time playing that game was spent betting on and spectating these simulations. I say take the bots out and let the players square off. Have skill as an X-factor. Allow for betting and spectating the arena battle instance, but give the players a chance to strut their stuff and gain some notoriety if they win consistently. Eventually the betting odds can be determined as soon as the challenge is accepted. Take the cumulative win/loss record for both teams and calculate the likeliness of the team with the better record winning over the team who's record is less impressive. This may throw some betters for a loop as a very skilled player could join a team and have a record of 0/0 and be in fact better than a player on the opposing team with a record of 15/2. The players should be able to inspect all the team members in both combatants teams as well as the fight conditions (items available, etc.) and be kept up to date of the odds as they change once bets come in. This may provide the opportunity for upsets in the arena and the opportunity for large AD payouts as a result. This may hinder the high-roller that just lost a ton of AD on the statistical favorite, but as the house will be taking a % of the winning payouts, the developers can still ensure that more AD are spent than paid out, which seems to be a theme of Neverwinter.
Let me know what y'all think.... Thoughts, concerns, questions, or suggestions welcome. Criticism to, I guess.
betting is nice... paid tournaments even more But betting can be cheated and NWO i think has a too small community for that, and dunno if is even legal. But first thing first.. i want custom pvp maps, domination is just bad, i want more of a DOTA map where u have objectives to do or an arena thing, most fun i had is in large pvp fights 10 v 10 20v20 but not GG one.. that is just bad And we should be able to que as guilds so a raid system is needed as well.
