Auction bidding - time limit / locked auction?

Several times, I've been outbid on an item I've wanted in the last couple of minutes before an auction closes. Yet when I go to place a counter-bid, even though the auction is still technically active, the bidding/buy it now buttons are greyed out.

Is here a time limit when bids are locked? And how can some people seemingly get around it, while I'm forbidden to bid? Even when it was my bid prior to the last bid on the item?

    If someone bought it at the 'buyout' price, then it would be no longer there to bid on. Could just be bad timing sometimes.

    I asked about this and a few other messed up issues with the auction house. Never really got an answer.

    I've had this happen so often I don't even bother bidding now:

    1. Place a bid.
    2. Get outbid.
    3. Can't rebid, even though there is still time (several minutes) on the auction.
    4. Watch as the bid price continues to rise (meaning others are still able to bid).

    If someone can explain this I'd love to hear it.

    It's normal, happens in auctions all the time. Now I always bid atleast around 2-3min before ending, then I mostly get to bid till (bitter ) end.

    And no, it's got nothing to do with buyout or so.

    if the item is 50k AD, and the item is worth says 100k buyout, and the other bidder has 1m+ AD.

    He will spam Bid on last 2mins (you are no longer allowed to bid at around 1:30secs. don have exact time) , what is additional 1k-10k if he spam the bid this way. While you bid 1x and if outbidded, it will take you sometimes to know becasue of email delay, the other guys, continuosly outbidding everyone including himself, cause he will get it back anyways by mail.

    Bottom line, if you already has a bid, and you are winning, they should not let you outbid yourself. << now that is a fix.

    They need to put in a system more like Ebay. Bid the highest you will pay and the system increases your bid for you automatically until your high bid has been beat. If they can't implement something like that then you should be able to bid on an item until the bitter end. It is supposed to be an auction.

    You can only bid during the last minute using the gateway AH

    Alternatively, instead of just using the default minimum bid amount someone adds 20k and waits until the last couple of seconds to bid. This doesn't give anyone time to adjust the minimum bid that's in their browser so they can't compete.

    Good to know. Sadly, for me, not an option, as I could never get Gateway function to work at all on my computer... *sad sigh*

    Problem is, the system DOESN'T ALLOW anyone to rebid the last couple of seconds before the auction ends. That was my original post: that the system is dis-allowing bidding up until the end of the auction...

    ETA: Someone just posted that this isn't true for Gateway users and since I am not allowed to become one, I cannot verify if this is true or no. Gateway feature doesn't work for me for some reason...
