Cleric FH and SPell last boss kiting

When watching videos of a lot of you doing FH and SPell, and trying to kite the adds on the last bosses, I have always noticed something a lot of you have missed about the kiting part of it.

A lot of you will run straight ahead and keep turning your mouse to guide you, and you take a ton of damage while kiting because of it.

I noticed early on that if you strafe left or right (A or D key) and run sideways to kite your mobs, you are always running away from their frontal swing damage. Thus, kiting the mobs in a sideways run will amount to 50% or less damage taken than simply running full steam ahead and turning with your mouse to guide you.

Of course, upgrading your Dark Enchantments for movement speed always helps, but try kiting sideways those adds and you'll find it much easier. Especially last phase of Spellplague final boss.

Just trying to help.

inb4 patch to fix sideways running to avoid dmg

EDIT: as an example, skip to 38:00 point of this video of my group last night in SPell. This is how I kite tons of mobs without a GF to gather them for you. If you watch whole video, I apologize for the arguing in it. It was a very poor inexperienced group and I am not used to running dungeons with unskilled players. It gets on my nerves.

Nope, dark enchantments are a bad idea for kiting actually, if you go significantly faster than NPCs, your train will start messing around, getting in the boss feets, and so on. So you better walk at the same speed, keep your stamina to cast a spell, and keep going. I have had a bad experience with a fast character. Not going to do that again during the FH boss.

Totally. I've been doing this since forever, I guess it was just habit. I didn't even think of it in terms of receiving less dmg, tbh I don't know if you actually do or if it's 50% as you say but I did it just because it felt smoother and allowed for a better view of the battlefield at all times.

I'd agree with diogene0 on the running too fast thing. If I get too far away from mobs I'm kiting say because they got stunned or for whatever reason they tend to do one of two things. They either go after somebody else or they try and take the shortest path too me which often causes them to run across the middle of the room and disrupt everybody or something. Is the amount of mov speed really all that noticeable say from rank 5 to rank 7 enchants? I mean we're only talking 3 utility slots on your gear so you're looking at like +180 to mov speed from that, doesn't seem like it would really matter much.

For kiting the best thing is healing step, unfortunately nobody has that since it's so deep into the righteous tree. It's a shame really, such a cool feat and I'd totally love to have that for doing more kiting and pvp. Having increased Regeneration is also very noticeable when it comes to kiting. More staming regen means more shift dodges and therefore more often you can stop to cast problem is getting enough regen becomes tricky, I never really bothered.

Honestly though kiting is not very fun no matte what way you look at it, to me at least.

With rank 5 enchants, you don't see any difference. With rank 8 or more, yes, there is a noticeable difference.

Hey Spani4rd, what server are you on and your in-game name? If Dragon where I'm at, I'd like to talk to ya about what you're running. It sounds very close to the play style and maybe some of the feats I'm running with. Just wanted to compare notes with ya maybe if I could. My in-game is Figaro, on Dragon server.

Noguera Lightbinder. and yeah I'm on Dragon. Add me and we can chat some day, although I'm not really playing much atm waiting on the expansion and new content. Everything feels overplayed already
