Tradeskills - The brilliant design to get your money

In just about every game the professions and tradeskills aspect has always been one of the primary forms of earning currency. In Neverwinter its no different, the better gear crafted can be a way to efficiently make astral diamonds in the game. And it is the very simple design by neverwinter to make the green tool/asset impossible to obtain outside of zen purchased packs a brilliant strategy to prevent the player from acquiring currency within the game. Now dont get me wrong, once you have the tools (and it will require epics), you can then make the currency on your own. But it will take a heavy investment of 4+ million astral diamonds to obtain these tools. Even the blue gemmed requires epic tools, and those are bare minimum for making the smallest of profits.

So Neverwinter has given its players a way to make currency within the game via tradeskills, but the perfect world gets paid first.

I'm pretty sure you can upgrade to level three minions. The green, blue and purple version you get from the Zen packs (which you can get with AD on the Auction by the way, without spending real money) are lvl 3 as well, but you don't NEED them to complete the high end tasks, they just make it go much faster or let you get slightly higher quality versions.

That said, the higher end tools will give your slightly better quality and you DO need those paid resources to get the lvl 2 or 3 quality version. Again, you can do the tasks with common version, they just won't be the higher quality versions. To me.. that's an ROI question. If you just want to complete the task, you need invest nothing, if you want to complete the higher level tasks and also get the higher quality, you need to invest in higher quality tools. (none of this applies to Leadership, since there's no "quality" tasks there)

Like every other aspect of NW, you can get the higher end assets without spending a penny of real money - it just means you have to spend A LOT of time instead. Time vs Money - which is more valuable to you? If the answer is neither, then... well. stop complaining, go get a single player game, download a trainer and hack to your hearts desire so you can get all the best loot without paying anything. This is an MMO - and a for-profit one at that - so you simply SHOULD NOT be able to get everything at max quality without either spending enormous amounts to time or money to get it. Period.

You cannot get tier3 (gemmed blue or purple) without the use of epic quality tools. That being said, it is impossible to obtain these tools without spending literally millions in astral diamonds or gambling on 300+ zen packs. These tools can not be obtained without spending... period. White tools CANT be turned to green and green can only be obtained via AH or booster pack (zen). Now if you are referring to purchasing these tools by obtaining astral by some other means then go for it... good luck obtaining 4 mil with dailies.

Only real options i see: Get to 60 and farm epic gear, or work the auction house. And the fact remains that if you want to make the best gear and profits through tradeskills, then you will spend 4 million astral. No amount of time or patience is going to get you the tools without a heavy investment in either diamonds or zen.

I should also clarify that i do not blame Neverwinter for this design. The game is free to play, and the company undoubtedly spent millions developing and will spend millions more to maintain. So, they have to get money some how. Allowing a player to advance fully within tradeskills without the need to spend heavily on tools would cost the company thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, so i understand the design.

While you are correct that you have to "spend" IT does matter HOW you spend.

Time - earning enough AD and convert into Zen to buy (only time spent)
Cash - faster way to get stuff, but that is the nature of Free to play
To grow old is inevitable, to grow up is optional.

Or you could just use this guide to help you make AD without spending a dime:
    http://nw-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?241451-So-you-want-to-be-rich-in-Neverwinter-Here-s-how-I-did-it&highlight=rich

    Initial time investment:
    I spent 40 hours leveling 30 characters to L11.
I spent 2.25 million AD on Man at arms just so I could upgrade my leadership tasks. Unnecessary.
I spent 2.35 million AD on unlocking character slots.
I spent 200k AD on buying blue platesmiths to unlock 1 extra profession slot per character.

The initial 8 character slots will take some time to unlock. Once you've got 8 characters earning you AD the limitation really becomes you having time to level an alt. If I had leveled 2 characters per day each time I had enough AD to unlock them, I could have gotten to 30 characters in about 45 days. Instead it's taken me about 80 days.

    Payout:
It takes me 40 minutes per day on the gateway doing leadership tasks to earn 150k AD.
I get about 3 Coalescent Wards per week from invocation.

Hey, if all of that works for you, then god bless ya. :)

But you gotta realize that that's a fringe methodology.

This is just one of many reasons why I have not spent any money on this game. Their business model is extremely shady, and bent toward a gambler-type mentality.

The good news: Dragon Eggs were just recently extremely abundant, and the price of Gemmed T3s dropped from 300k-500k AD to 100k-120k AD. So, at least Cryptic is being partially generous.

Personally, I feel bad for people who have spent 3-4 million AD on tools only to see the price of T3s plummet through the floor.
