Who likes Mimics?

Mimics are interesting. I have no idea how long they've been around, but no matter what they're always dangerous. Like an Angler Fish is to other sea creatures...

I both like them and hate them. They're difficult to take down alone, and while they spew coins everywhere during the fight you can't pick them up (they're oozes, you know... those coins are just ooze droplets).

I'm sure at some point Cryptic will fix them so that you can't walk through them. And maybe they'll add a behavior that will make Mimics quietly follow Adventurers who completely ignore them (as long as they're not within an Adventurers line of sight) only to attack them when it's clear their disguise isn't working. :)

I wish they were more random - once you run some dungeons a couple times, you know where they are, and their whole ploy becomes ignored. I like that they are pretty dangerous, but at the same time, I dislike their total immunity to control effects. I'd also like to see defeating them become more rewarding.

Personally, I'd also like to see more gelatinous cubes in dungeons as well.

A stalking enemy? My god I love that idea. Could be anything, big possibility for "rogue" enemies too. They could stay stealthed or out of your line of site but wait for the most opportune time to attack. Maybe after a large fight, whenever your health is low-- even when your pants are down!

Yeah, that would be cool. Maybe any dungeon with a mimic would just have the mimic replace a random chest each time. So you would never know which one was the mimic.

I love mimics. They are by far my favorite creature in the game.

I only wish they were more random so I didn't end up memorizing which chests were mimics...
But sadly even then there are some tests I learned to check if the chests are mimics or not which would still ruin it. :(

Agreed, they need to be random. Although they do clearly show which party-members are new to that particular dungeon ;)

Mimics should also hide as skill nodes.

The gelatinous cube is probably my favorite.
That totally made the dungeon feel like D&D.
The mimics are fairly close runner-ups

I also like it when you know the dungeon well enough that you leave them alone.
That's precisely what experience dungeon-delvers in a story would do.
It's kinda fun, too, when a newbie springs that trap and you're all, "Really? He's so green!" Great fodder for in-character acting.

I wish they were more random. I also wish we couldn't notice it's a fake. If you mouseover a mimic you don't see the little bag on the pointer. So, you know you shouldn't open this one. :(

Ah shoot, I wanted that one to be a secret!

they also will react to nearby fighting as well, flipping open their mouths and just all around enjoying the carnage, if you're close enough you can see them or at the very least hear them (squeaky hinges and all that). I agree they should be a bit random, as well as giving out SOME loot, gods as tough as they are they give a pittance in reward. something would be appreciated, not even asking for a purple drop >.> i'd be happy with a green xD

Maybe we should make the mimic drop actual treasure if it is killed.

They used to drop nice things, those nice things got stealth nerfed (because high levels were farming the low-level mimics that dropped the same nice things as the high level mimics), because they were being farmed for said nice things.
How Cryptic trolls the entire NWO playerbase: 9200 GS listed for CN, implying anyone who needs more has no skill.

How sad.. maybe make the drop level appropriate.

I love the mimics so much. They're the funniest critters in the game. It would be cool if they dropped treasure appropriate to the level of the dungeon. Maybe make it a random chance to drop metric tons of gold OR a treasure item? I dunno, that might make it harder to farm egregiously while still being a nice reward.

I also like the thought of a nature skill node morphing into a giant mushroom with teeth for a skill-node mimic, but the treasure-chest mimic concept is still my favorite. It's just funny.

lack of randomness is a universal problem with Neverwinter traps mimics wandering monsters and that really hurts replayability

Earlier versions of D&D had Friendly Mimics. Basically, they would offer players information or even a treasure item if they were given food. At some point there were taken out of the game entirely... long before Neverwinter. :(

I love mimics!:D It is one of the few things that really make me feel "D&Dish" in NW. I wish they were, as others have said, more random. Like 10% of chests will spawn a mimic, rather than the same place always spawning the mimic.

I wish there were other more staple D&D critters, like gelatinous cubes, beholders, displacer beasts, hook horrors, rats, bats, etc. I know there is one gelatinous cube and at least 2 beholders (one of which is in a skirmish no one plays anymore), but I'd like to see more of the traditional D&D enemies. Other than mindflayers. I am fairly certain we have more than enough mindflayers. Pirates too. How many pirate bosses do we need? That is a bit disappointing really.

I'm not sure you want having one following you around. You'd be trailed by lots of players who think he's a treasure chest and trying to open him...

They should work mimics into any object you can interact with.. be it a bookcase that bites your hand off or a weapons rack that scuttles towards you like a spider..

    Mix it up a little..

Somebody needs to make a foundry mission where a friendly mimic offers you a reward if you bring him some goodies - like a goblin drumstick or kobold cutlet.

. . . . . Indeed! Rare though that they are, they are known as (Greater) House Hunter Mimics! Sure does give a whole new meaning to the term, "Buyer Beware!"

One of my most treasured DnD memory was in a gen con(93 iirc) i played a quest where we found a little secret room with a chest in it, a beautiful promising chest, the wizard said something like "be carefoul, can be a mimic" so we poked it with a sword... and yeah, was a mimic, so we fought in the little room the really easy mimic, it dropped some loot in the corner... and when we grabbed it, the door closed and some big teeth appeared in the roof and the floor and the little room started chewing us... a Secret room mimic that was using a mimic as a bait... just unfreakingawesomebeliably brilliance :D

There are 2 gelatinous cubes in the secret dungeon off of temple of the spider, there are also a few in castle never. Also I'd love to see mimics being random.

Mimics and gelatinous cubes are awesome!! Gives us more of them please :)
