My Gaming Rig Project - Work in Progress

Over the last few weeks I have been a bit absent from the community and the game due to being so overwhelmed with customers for my pc repair and customization business. I have been working on the side in the shadows however on a project to build my gaming machine which I have been building and funding for around 3 months now, and the time has come to show off some of that work.

Below are a few pics of my gaming pc setup and some spec screenshots, and following the pics is a list of my system specs thus far. I will elaborate a little bit afterwards.

Thermaltake ArmorPlus(Armor+) VH6000BWS Black Aluminum / Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case
ASUS P6X58D Premium LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
INTEL QUAD i7-920 Processor 8 Cores
ZALMAN CNPS9900ALED 120mm 2 Ball Low-noise Blue LED CPU Cooler
280mm BLUE LED GHOST CASE SIDE FAN
2 120MM BLUE LED FRONT AND CHAS CASE FANS
ATI RADEON HD4650 2GB GRAPHICS GPU VIDEO CARD
500GB 6 GB/S SATA HDDX2
DYNEX 450W PSU W/ DUAL FANS

THERE ARE SEVERAL eSATA & USB 3.0 PORTS BOTH ON TOP AND IN THE BACK AS WELL AS A LIGHTSCRIBE DVD DL BURNER IN THE FRONT BUT THESE ARE LEFT OUT ON PURPOSE AS I PLAN TO UPGRADE THEM SOON.

MORE COMING SOON...

I intend to build further on to the system and am currently working on a custom video card enclosure. I also intend to install a Blue LED Tube Lamp inside the case to illuminate it further and hopefully it will glow upwards through the roof vent and the front grill. I also plan on a more advanced gpu system and plan to utilize dual gpu sli technology through two higher end cards, considering the 550 Ti but haven't decided yet. I am also considering a larger hdd instead of the dual hard drives.

As for overclocking I did apply a small multiplier increase but I am kind of waiting on getting to involved with overclocking until I have had a chance to evaluate the system further. I had an screenshot of the overclocking utility so far but I am only allowed 4 images.

I am still working my machine so keep that in mind when viewing all the specs lol.

Well that is all for now, just wanted to share what I have been doing the past few months. I am looking for a guild in NVW if anyone is recruiting. Just send me a message on here with details, information and how to contact your guild master.

Thanks, God Bless & see you all in Neverwinter!

Thats a good low budget system. Its good to start with a system like that. You dont need to spend 2000 bucks to play this game.

I dont even know why your wanting to play this game as it is right now.

I spend even less than you but i only want to fulfill the RECOMMENDET requirements that dev proudly presents here:

    http://nw.perfectworld.com/download

but....it still not enough, little confusing, or intentional action to grab more ppl's trying this, oh well this is not good lie to ppl's...hmm maybe mum dont teach that whoever put this requirements on web site.

What makes you say that or are you just spewing from the mouth? I have a i7-920 with only 6 GB of RAM and an 1gb HD4600, so his system is slightly more robust then mine and my system runs this game without issues. Makes me wonder what kind of tech knowledge you actually have.

Wow, people still use side windows and lights in PCs? I thought that went out in about 2002. Also, why is this posted on a Neverwinter forum?

lol i was under the impression that a "General Discussion" thread is for off topic general conversation maybe? lol. I could care less about what you think of putting lights or windows in a PC because well it is "my" pc and I will do whatever I want to it. Have a nice day. :)

Even if das blinkenlights were out of style since a long, long time ago.
Whatever, even if it looks wonky he could put install a coffee maker for all we'd care.

Vid card be a bit weak but will play Neverwinter just fine.
Me assume you plan to upgrade the videocard, aye?

How is this even a work in progress? Besides a upgrade to the GPU and a SSD, you bought outdated parts.

DYNEX 450W PSU W/ DUAL FANS
I've never heard of Dynex. I probably wouldn't trust them to power my calculator. Cheap OEM power supplies are a false economy.

The old i7 920 though, good memories - I had an i7 950 three years or so back, great overclocker, although it was very hot.

I would upgrade to a beefier PSU if you're going to overclock an 1366 rig, that said, the Zalman coolers weren't great and I don't know how far you'd be able to push it on that. I used to run with a Thermalright True cooler and can highly recommend it, even if you plan to upgrade to a more modern system it's still a great cooler.

Furthermore, I don't know what "overclocking utility" you are overclocking with, but I do hope it's the BIOS.

From the compilation of parts, I'm guessing you either bought it pre-built off ebay(sorry, you probably paid too much) or 2nd hand. I'm not sure you'd be better off with SLI 550ti's instead of a single more modern card such as a HD7870 Tahiti LE, HD7950 or a GTX660ti. That said, NW has pretty low system requirements and even maxed out with every slider in the custom settings at 1600p my card(GTX670 SC) only averages around 60% utilization.

Also to those people saying side windows and lights are out - only if done badly.
I like case illumination to be set up with:
    • On/off switch (You need to sleep)
    • No visible light source, hide the LED strip/CFLs!
    • Clean cabling, otherwise you're just illuminating a mess
    • Don't mix lots of colours otherwise it'll look really gaudy.
Basically, keep it subtle and classy.
    Example (project log here: http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?p=3378156):

    DSC02800.jpg

The side window, imo should never have a grill or fan in it if you're using it for asthetics. Even if the stock panel came with a window that has a fan mount or air intake I'd remove that window and replace it with a stock clear plexi sheet. Of course, for a more formal office you might want to omit the lights and window all together. The plain looking Fractal Define cases are some of my favorite designs since the Antec P180. The Corsair cases and the Silverstone Fortress sereis are also very nice cases that I think would fit in well with minimalish bedrooms/offices.

    /end ramble.

    Nice looking machine!

Might I suggest a higher end Power Supply though?

For Gaming Rigs there two things you don't cheap out on:
    1 Graphics Card
    2 Power Supply

You actually get more power efficiency and extend the lifetime of all of your parts by having a power supply roughly twice as much as you need it. Any computer I build nowadays has at least 600 but preferably 800W Power Supplies.

I used to believe in strictly anodized aluminum cases for weight, but it became difficult to find quality and function in that material. Now I care less about aluminum or steel as long as it is functional, with good airflow, and uses as little plastic as possible. That being said, I like Cooler Master cases and some Antec designs.

As for PSUs, I have no idea what a Dynex is, sounds like an off brand. I'd be wary of them. I prefer to stick to Corsair, PC Power & Cooling, or maybe a Thermaltake or SilverStone. A 450W is going to be very weak for the long term, especially as you upgrade GPUs.

As for the GPUs, I run 550 Ti cards and have no problem doing what I want, but I'm not hardcore like some. I am way over the specs for Neverwinter and I find the bottle neck to be server lag on the part of Cryptic and not a fault of my 'rig'.

I had read some of the post that was dumped into the lower depth, and find it really sad that some vicious readers mock the OP just because it is off topic.

On topic, I do not know much about computer stuff, but it is great that you build a PC for a game you like. You deserved to be pampered :)

Also about the PSU thingy, since the OP deals with pc repair and stuff, I believe he/she should know and be aware of the brands and such. It is good to hear alternatives, though.
