PvP mechanics that everyone needs to understand:

1. If you are touching a point then the enemy team will receive no score from it (even if they outnumber you 5 to 1, just touching it will block that point from adding to their score)

2. If your team outnumbers the enemies on a point you will cap it

and of course, 2's corollary:

If you have as many people on the point as the enemy team they will not cap it.

Far too often I see my teammates dancing around a point to get a kill when they could be capping it while fighting simply because they do not understand the mechanics.

Please stand on the point if you're anywhere near it, it almost always helps.

You're forgetting the most important part.

Rejuvenation potions stack and have no cooldown.

You're forgetting to get a life and stop crying .

True standing on the point will cut the other team's points off but I've seen this act differently since Live.

Standing and defending while fighting another person you'll still get Points or Points will stop it's just so random.
Standing and defending a base with a team mate while fighting 1 opponent the base will start taking in their favor and they'll eventually cap it even though 2 of your team mates are still on it and alive and haven't moved off it.

What part of that post sounded like crying? Until Tene's and Rejuvenation potions are nerfed, they are the most important parts of winning a PvP match, bar none other, and it's important that people who enjoy PvP (altho in the state of things I don't see how you could) realize that. You can pretend like it's your uber skills, but for anyone who has tried using these, it doesn't take a degree to realize that teamwork and skill take a backseat to these brokenly powerful elements.
Piece of advice: if you want to win in PvP, don't try it without these.

The last bit of standing on the point if you're anywhere near it is bad advice.

If your team owns the point and it is uncontested, do not stand on it. Stand in the way of enemies trying to get it. Engage enemies BEFORE they get to the point. If they are willing to fight you off the point, you get points during the fight.

If you wait for enemies on the point, then you get no points when the enemy arrives.

If you don't have the point or the enemy is contesting it, stand on the point. Otherwise, don't stand on it.
