So, I just picked this game up about 3 weeks ago, its been pretty fun, could use a few more fluff items like more armor looks and companions could use some AI, whatever, its free and I've been having a good time.
Well, I just got to level 30 and I just found out what everyone else found out a few months ago. This game was launched, and it is not done yet...
What is the point of Paragon powers if you are forced into 1 paragon path!? Where are the rest of them? How do you release a game with only 5 classes and 1 paragon class for each of those classes?
What a shame! What a huge shame.

There will be more classes and more paragon paths for classes.
So, you watch a movie, that you enjoy. You get to the end and find out it ends on a cliff hanger with a sequel promised.
Do you suddenly forget how much you enjoyed the movie you just watched and demand your money back? Or do you just sit back, content with the fact it was a fun movie and keep your eyes open for info on the sequel?
The game is free, waiting costs nothing, you enjoyed the game up to this point. What makes you think you wont enjoy it later when they add to it?
My stance on this is that they should have waited until the game was finished before releasing it rather than releasing an unfinished product. Don't worry. I'll wait.
Yes there are some things that need worked on but MMOs by nature are never finished. They are always being worked on and change throughout their lifecycle.

Ok first off all. I agree, the game was pushed out to soon. I would of liked more, who wouldn't?
That said, you cant really ever say an MMO is finished. They never are, they are always being added to. After paragon paths, there will be more classes, after classes there will be more zones, after zones more levels. At what point in that would you consider it finished? At what point would you allow the company to start earning money off it?

If this bothers you already wait till you are 60. It's getting worse as you progress through the "game". Tried PvP yet? Got epic mount for pvp? Greater weapon-/armor- enchants? Is the economy broken? Is the game overrun by bots? Does Craptic do anything about those farmbots?

I actually favor the way they released this game, the more you release at one time the more that is going to go wrong. What they did with this game is pretty much release nothing but the core of the game and now they are fixing that and soon they are going to fluff it out with all the goodies that others have. I mean yeah sure they could have kept the game a secret for 7 years and had a 8 year Closed Beta to have the perfect polished game, but by then would it still even be relevant? Would something better have come out in that time? I do agree that in recent years most games are just half done games that we're by nature designed to fail, but in this case I think it was for the better. I mean, what's more difficult; balancing 5 classes, or the dozen or so classes that will (most likely) come from 4e? Slow and steady I think is a good way to go for MMO's. Just my 2c.

MMO's are never finished they evolve change grow improve get expansions over time.
I have not played Lotro for the past 4 years because it is finished and I am done.
I do not think suddenly it sucks because I can not yet go to Morodor.
I play it because it is a growing evolving product and game.
Same as the reason I play Neverwinter. Are there issues are there bugs yeah there are but they
ae working on addressing those issues they closed exploits in dungeons.
Funny thogh those that were exploiting now complain they fixed something that was broken.
The point is simple give it time the game only released/launched June 20th, open beta a month ago
the game is still evolving improving growing. If it was already done what would there be to look
forward to what would be the reason to keep playing.
OP is completely justified in his opinion. And Cryptic is suffering the consequences of releasing a game before it's ready. Population in this game has plummeted.
As a matter of Fact I enjoy the game a lot. I've had quite a few friends who invited me to try this game because we all grew up playing D&D together. I tried the game, their are problems with this game, which is why I try to give feedback on how I view the game. Do I expect everyone to think the same way I do, No.

Good to hear.
As far as expecting to think the same as you...are you sure? Because your last few posts sure seem like you are calling others out for not thinking the same as you.
Back on topic, no MMO is ever finished, until they shut the servers down.
As long as people are willing to pay for unfinished products, companies will release unfinished products. The shift to release finished games again is not going to occur on the company side, its going to occur on the customer side, if it ever occurs at all.

Invalid Comparison.
The "Movie Sequel" comparison would work if we were talking about major "updates" to the game.
The correct movie comparison to be made regarding Neverwinter as it stands would be:
You go to a movie, 10 minutes in you notice that a certain special effect is missing at every point it should be there (ongoing bugs), the main character is given a new piece of equipment (character class) but when he goes to use it any of its secondary functions (Paragon Paths) they don't work, the character changes clothes about 40 times in the film, but they all look the same (very-poor gear itemisation), he gets to use many different weapons but they all look like the first one he picked up (very poor weapon itemisation), the story is generally well-presented (looks OK apart from the aforementioned missing special effects) but is far too linear, and although there is a promised sequel you doubt you'll come back because the "final edit" of this movie had missed literally hundreds of quite obvious "gaffs".
PS: Please, please, please STOP using the "the game is free" excuse. If someone dumps a ton of rubbish on your front lawn its still rubbish, even if its free.
I agree an MMO is never finished until it goes offline. That being said parts of an MMO can certainly be completed. In this MMO more is half completed than fully done. I agree with the OP that the few classes they did offer at the start could have been completed to include the Paragon the paths. I can see what they were thinking in that they wanted at release for people to be able to get all they way to level 60 at launch, and then come back and finish off the classes. The problem at this point is that they are now releasing new material without completing the old.
Theoretically we are getting 2/3 new races and a new class, but what about the classes we already have, will they be completed? How about our companions that are stuck in level 15 limbo? The other issue is they are already trying to balance the game for PvP without the Paragon paths completed, what effect will that have? Before balancing things, finish off the classes, see how they work in both PvE and PvP, then adjust.
I am enjoying the game, but it sort of reminds of the old commercial: "Tastes great", "Less Filling". In this case that is not such a good thing.

MMOs are never done.
If they were required to wait until it was done to launch, the game would never launch. No MMO in history would have ever launched if being done was a requirement to do so.

You should know this.
I feel the person who posted just above yours addressed this beautifully. You should read it.

Every class can be leveled to 60 as is with what has already been offered. They are as done as needed to be to be functional. As such, they are already 'complete' enough to be playable. So, the post didn't address anything other than preference.
Even if all the paragon paths had been implemented that would in no way meant they were completed. They are subject to change at any time, just like everything else in an MMO. Done and MMO don't go together until an MMO closes.

This habit of releasing an MMO before it is finished is becoming a chronic issue.
