I don't know if they seriously missed this in the latest patch or if it's supposed to be so but there is no XP gain from doing Alchemy jobs. Only the Alchemical Research gives XP and it requires Basic Alchemical Knowledge and I have no clue where to obtain it. It's not for sale in the AH. They addressed the few other things regarding Alchemy today so why pass on this?
thats supposed to be like that. u can only get exp with 1 specific task and when u get the needed items for that u increase a whole lvl. personally i think its better that way
Yeah but where you get Basic Alchemical Knowledge? It's Uncommon so I think it's only available from booster packs. Every other crafting skill gives you at least 5XP for doing any job. If you scroll down the Alchemy jobs you see that there is no XP coming from ANY other than the Research jobs. Also a lot of jobs have empty Rewards...

To be honest I kind of like it also. True I got worried when I first so it and was starting to wonder how I was ever going to lvl the skill up. After hitting rank 3 before heading to work I have come to enjoy it. Even more so now that the gateway will allow me to work the lvling missions at work and the regents/parts missions I'm off work and in game.

So far with the untested potions I've poisoned myself three times and made myself huge once. I find it amusing I just need to make sure I only use them in PE where I self heal LOL. I'm enjoying Alchemy more than any of the others so far. Like powereddjinn said it's better than protecting the caravan every two hours with a bout of gather astral diamonds or assist local wizard before I log out. :P
I have a random potion, now i need a sucker... I mean assistant to try it on.
I'm not drinking it, I saw what went into it.
tried it on my skeletal dog (he is dead anyway) and he exploded O.o luckily I just put him (or more accurately: his bones) together and he's alive again (well "alive" in some sense)
Have you guys seen the rewards for completing most of the higher level tasks in Alchemy? You get NOTHING. Cryptic didn't even finish the Alchemy profession yet. They'll probably patch it sometime down the line, but as of now, Alchemy is useless.

it's fun and on level 7 alchemy allows to make dyes and while leveling up you'll receive more recipes for potions so not so useless

You are so absolutely wrong, it's hilarious. This is totally awesome, and something I absolutely love about the new Alchemy profession.
Protip: All those tasks DO have rewards.
The longer it takes people to figure this out, the more AD I'll make! Cheers!

Alchemy is fun - in fact, I enjoy it a lot more than I enjoy Gauntlgrym. (yeah, yeah, apples and oranges, but still).
Only problem is that I forgot to stock up on solvent, so now I am at work, and can only do the gathering tasks through the gateway. - ah, well...there will at least be a pile of resources waiting for me when I get home.

Some people are so negative... making assumptions like this without even trying it.

you don't know how it works.
you have to do the experiments and find out what you get.
that is why i like this profession so much. they don't just say "go make this" it's more like "ooh waht does this button do?" "Deedee, NO!!!!" BOOM!!!

I made it all the way up to level 20 in alchemy on the preview server. I can assure you, that it is complete and there are rewards.

LMAO! I literally LOL'd at the office reading this one and the other post here so far. It is definitely the funnest profession to level up...now if I can find some suckers, I mean friends to test these potions on LOL

Exactly. This is especially fun when you have about 5-10 potions and in dungeon with party, just say: "here this will help you in combat:)" and hope for funny effects (be aware that this is not a good idea while fighting boss:P).
Much better than making tons of pants and shirts (I can't get rid of them on my TR, I even tried to give them away but nobody in enclave wanted them, they're clean I swear!)

I don't know. The AP potion isn't to bad.

They need to add an icon to represent a randomly determined task award.
Yeah, I saw the green material required for the only thing that give XP, and just assumed I had to buy it, so I stopped doing alchemy.
Now I'm all for changing up how things work, BUT GIVE US A HINT!
I may start trying again, but I am not convinced it's worth it.
It's like the WoW quests that say go kill 10 things (normal profession) verses the quests that say bring me 10 livers, where you have to go kill between 1 and 1000 MOBS to get EACH liver(Alch). I skip those quests because the reward is not commensurate to the task. The frustration alone of killing 100 legless antelopes, or whatever, is beyond my tolerance. I play games to have fun not to get angry.

I only tried a couple of those potions. Getting poisoned and then turning into a bear was too much for me to handle.......

Absolutely brilliant: finally something that isn't 'click' here forever. I love this
It's still only
but that's much better than 'Protect Caravan' every <however fast your assets are>
What Class Are You?
For me I try to stick to the following.
gather
refine
gather
refine
gather
refine
experiment
experiment
experiment
learn
rinse and repeat
I'm not drinking it, I saw what went into it.
D&D Home Page - What Class Are You? - Build A Character - D&D Compendium

Err, too short.
