Where's the lore?

I'm surprised that such a huge and detailed world this game is set into has almost no background in the website. I'm rather new to D&D and wanted to check some of the info about what's happening in the world, with things like the Spellplague and so on completely alien to me, but found almost nothing.

I know about Salvatore NW Saga, but it's 4 books long and based on Drizzt adventures which I don't know much about, and so I would probably need to read 10 books or more to get up to speed with his saga.

So, is there something I can read that doesn't take me months to know more less what's going on in this game?

You can collect the lore in game and read them later at your own timing.

How about unlocking it by I don't know, reading all the scrolls, books and lore items you meet on your leveling up and actually reading quest lines?

It's D&D in name only, for much of the game. Yes they have drow, and it's called neverwinter, they use the name nashers, neverember - they have Deekin street and goblins and orcs and it is a fun game, it ain't D&D though, not the same at all...as the other poster stated, the in game lore will get you through.
