Guardian Fighters - Rework of Mark Ability (New Concept)

Current Issues with “Mark” Special Ability

- Animation is slow and cumbersome
- Single Target Only
- Skill is replaced after Threatening Rush is learned

Threaten Rush outshines the Guardian Fighters class special ability “Mark” because the animation is faster, does damage and marks with a AoE. The “Mark” skill needs to be removed as an action and a new special added.

New Concept:
“Mark” Changes:
- Removal of “Mark” skill - Other Skills that mark targets stay unchanged and still mark targets – Such as Threaten Rush & Enforced Threat
- Mark is changed to a Debuff with 2 to 5 Second Timer (Depending on the Rank of Enforce Threat Skill)
- Mark Debuffs targets and reduces their defense by 5%

“Enforced Threat”
Enforced Threat is now the new “Special” with the following changes:
- Maximum # of targets hit by the skill (Taunted, Damaged, Marked per use) to 10 (Up from 5)
- Cool Down 12 Seconds (Down from 15 Seconds)
- Targets forced to attack player for 3 Seconds

Enforce Threat – Skill Levels
Rank 1 – Recovers 5% Guard Meter & +1 Seconds to Mark Debuff
Rank 2 – Recovers 10% Guard Meter & +2 Seconds to Mark Debuff
Rank 3 – Recovers 15% Guard Meter & +3 Seconds to Mark Debuff

This change gives the Guardian Fighter a useful special skill that taunts, debuffs and damages enemy’s on a respectable cool down. The skill is also useful in both PvP & PVE and shouldn't unbalance the class.

Please post your feedback and reasons for support or against the concept.
Thanks,

I like the idea of a debuff, but for a Guardian Class I like the idea of baking in the Damage debuff over giving everyone a dps increase.

    Not a bad idea...

    Thanks Ayroux.

Elanith - This would give a small dps increase as it will free up 1 encounter as Enforced Threat would be moved to special. But would really help in PvE with tanking because currently our AoE taunt is limited to just 5.

    Thanks,

I approved everything in your thread Dkcandy.

First, i want to get your attention that the mark is not a fighter class feature, unque to the class, it's a "defender" (tank) feature, if they plan to add new tanking class, they should all rely on mark, they can't make that a class power when it's a role power, like healing, dodging or stunning. It's not something unique to the GF

But i'll add few thing about the blue things.

1)I don't agree with "Mark is changed to a Debuff with 2 to 5 Second Timer (Depending on the Rank of Enforce Threat Skill)"

While like you i'm annoyed by the mark short lifetime, the intent was good, if you block the attack, mark stay longer, lesser damage needed to do enough threat to tank, if you don't, better do more damage to keep up. I feel the GF issue are all fixed by the conqueror path, it is the more rewarding way already considering block/threat issue, i don't want it to remain in the uncontested build for GF. Honestly, conqueror "should" be the the build that generates the less threat since it focus at making you dps.

But, when you are marking to get hit immediately before the mark animation is fully resolved, because even enforced threat is so slow it's plain dumb. I'd suggest maybe something around those lines "the target is marked, if you are hit and the damage has not been blocked 3 seconds AFTER of it has been apply, then the mark is lost". At least it still reward blocking, while giving something useful if you don't block. Most of our encounter, daily animation last for more than a second making it almost impossible or to demanding to maintain the mark while resuming our tanking duty.

2)Mark Debuffs targets and reduces their defense by 5%

Mark is useless by itself, it has been said thousands of time, for the mark to really shine, i wouldn't put a fix effect attached to it, especially a 2nd "weak" status to give like tide of iron does. Unless it gives the same effect than in the PnP game, "Marked monsters does 10% less damage on your allies". Mark could be tactically used to debuff the damage even if the mobs are not technically tanked, and i don't feel people will dislike the same tactical use in PvP, giving something other than full CC/DMG conq GF in PvP, you give something to the protector to work around, defending the team without "taunting/tanking" directly. But there's the feat already, oh well, just make a double the effect from the feat or add a new goody against marked target, like "marked enemy grants combat advantage and have their damage resistance reduced by 1/2/3/4/5%" but still it's lesser problem to care of.

3)Maximum # of targets hit by the skill (Taunted, Damaged, Marked per use) to 10 (Up from 5)

I'm unsure about this, buffing enforced threat will:

    -Make the ability almost mandatory
-Might give too much tanking potential, and put the wizard in the useless class list.

I do think only the bigger target need to be tanked, minions are meant to be killed/pushed off the cliff/CC, name it. On the subject, i always felt only minions should be pushed off the cliff, but anyway, thats another topic.

Before changing this ability i would try to work and improve the tank role, what should be tank? and the controller role, is it my job to focus and kill minions?. And maybe we can ask another, is there simply too much adds?

What i'd like is that enforced threat has an intelligent selection feature. Like having a priority list: 1)Boss 2)Elite 3) Highest max hp monsters 4)trash.

    That's my opinion.

Thank you for this post, and i encourage people to give their views/opinions/suggestion about the most important issue. Mark is bad, and furthermore, Mark shouldn't be on TAB. I do think all at-will should mark, at the exception of cleave (maybe the third strike could mark.)
