I find the most important aspect of the game has been ignored and it is a shame since D&D mainly known for it's rp. I was wondering if Cryptic has any plans to enhance this aspect of the game? For example making a shard that is strictly for rpers and those of us who greatly love and crave that part of the game. Making more area's that are rp friendly. As the game is now RP seems to be almost non-existent less the efforts put in by a few of the guilds.

I am also curious how many of the current Neverwinter players are craving this aspect of the gameplay? And how many of you would like to see some more focus put on roleplay, I mean after all we have an amazing setting to enjoy it in.

I think in the end it will come down to the Foundry.

Depending on how wide they can really extend it.

For instance letting people actually "Create" private or public zone hubs in any setting they want, populated with NPC's (with text/stories), psuedo-player housing, and maybe even with triggered events or ways to lead into foundry missions, etc.

    Could be interesting.

There isn't much you can do with the foundry either since the limit of players allowed at one time is only five I believe.

It is an issue with MMOs, that not many of the playerbase are after roleplay. Bear in mind that both D&D MMOs have less provisions for roleplaying than World of Warcraft does.

Weren't they going to merge all of the shards? That would make a "roleplaying shard" problematic. It might just boil down to a player convention, such as roleplayers congregating on instances that are multiples of 5 on any map for example.

There are some roleplayers on Beholder, and I think the biggest community is on Mindflayer, but the biggest problem I have with the game is that there aren't really many "rp-friendly" areas. It is a modular game, which basically means you move from one module to the next to do quests etc, and all the areas exist specifically to this purpose and are filled to the brim with enemies, following the same structure of "do the quest here, get to the next campsite, do the quest there" and so on. There aren't many (if any) areas that exists solely to.. be there and be explored. Which is a bit of a shame.
Overally the game in itself isn't much "RP-friendly" in my opinion. If they could find a way to have more than 5 people enter the same Foundry zones, I am sure that the community could deliver on its own; maybe they will consider it in the future, admitted it's possible.

I think that for the moment the main focus of the developer is to test the engine, the power balance and some other "rules". I really hope that after this part they start to develope some more role playing content. I know that the player can roleplay thei character with each other, but this is not what all we want.
I'm sure that we all agree that we need more role-playing-fiendly npcs and quest tied with our classes, races, divinities, city of origin and so on. Branched quests with multiple routes and yes, also bad endings, less fighting, more (any!) puzzles. We need a story and characters who reacts to the decisions of the players and quests changing with these decisions.

In short we need a dungeon master.

I know that this is a free to play mmorpg but at the moment this is not d&d. It's Diablo.
