Same thing here this morning I go to log on first try and this is the message I got, whats going on? >,<
and I just tested it & it dont matter what PW I put in it just says this, not even saying wrong PW...
dunno if this is relevant but i cant load into the enclave anymore, the bar fills and does nothing else. i tried to start a new char to see if its server related, i got past the starter quests but as soon as it came to loading into the enclave it got stuck again.
god knows whats happening
I hope they fix this very very soon.... Also can someone from cryptic make a comment on this issue on either facebook or on the forums here would be awesome

Have you considered that someone might be trying to brute force hack your account? And so they spammed bad passwords enough times to lock you out for the cool off period.

I'm having the same issue. Hit enter world and the bar fills and just sits there. I was getting this a bit yesterday but it managed to resolve after 4-5 attempts to log; today nothing works. Protectors enclave has fallen into a black hole and you cannot reach it anymore sorry.
Yes i have considered that but the truth is over the past 10 years I've been playing online games I never been hacked once... So im almost 100% sure that its not some hacking attack
Enclave is the only zone which loads slowly for me, sometimes it takes 20 seconds, and other times it takes 2 minutes. Sometimes the loading bar will hit around 95% and sit still, or 100% but never give me the option to "PRESS ANY KEY".
If I afk for a few minutes and actually live a real life for a brief moment, it's usually loaded and sucking my life away thusly.
They are not related. Anybody with the PE problem needs to get out of this thread and look at all of the other threads dealing with the PE problem.
To the OP ... the only way you can get that "too many attempts" error is if you (or somebody else) has tried to log in using the wrong password too many times in a row. They will eventually lock your account for a cooling-off period. Unfortunately, your "logic" concerning not being hacked doesn't hold water -- just because you haven't in the past doesn't mean you won't be now or in the future. Besides, it may not be you that got hacked.

I didn't say that you where hacked. I said that they might be attempting to hack you.

I've done a virus scan and I got 0 viruses 0 trojans 0 riskobjects and 0 everything. So its not possible that someone hacked me and I can login on my neightbours computer just not my own..... It is very weird
error occurs whatever username you use. therefore not account specific.
error can be circumvented by connecting to a vpn on an external broadband
conclusion is that there is an ip issue or something similar
I have had the same issue for 24 hours and cant get help from cryptic or virgin media. IMO I have paid
if ye cant get it doon ye, get it right up ye!!

This is a new issue and I apologize that we do not have a concrete solution as of this moment. We are looking into the problem but as of yet the cause/solution remain undiscovered, I'm afraid.
However, we recommend the following steps which have helped some users work around the issue in the past:
Log out of all Cryptic games
Wait 15 minutes
Change your password via the website
Restart your modem/router
Apologies if some of these steps are inconvenient. If we are able to discover a root cause or more consistent workaround, we'll let you know. Sorry that you've encountered this issue!

Dezstravus, I have run a few tests myself. The atual username you attempt to enter has no impact. nor does restarting your pc/router. I also tried fresh re-install with no success. I can log in fine through a vpn. seems to be related to my ip. almost as if my ip has been barred. I can send you my ip if that would help

I have not been online on any cryptic game since yesterday, i have waited 9 hours now, i have changed my password twice and i got a wire from my fiber connection in the wall stright to my computer. So i guess it can't be that

Sorry to hear that! I would recommend contacting customer support (link, or email customerservice@perfectworld.com) to look into that. I apologize that I don't have access to IP ban information.

I would strongly suggest you look into two particular things regarding this issue, either of which is probably the culprit:
1) Non-printable characters in the login dialog input buffers. I get the sense that any key you press that the application doesn't actually handle remains in the input buffer, so if you get half-way through your password, press Del, then Backspace (which will delete the last character visible) and then start typing, you get something transmitted similar to MyPass<DEL>word and it's rejected because it is, obviously, wrong. The same would likely happen for the e-mail address, so you might be trying to match up an E-mail address like 'myname@myemailprovid<DEL>er.com'. A common mistake when home-rolling graphic interface input elements like text fields. This would explain why the exact same password will work sometimes but appear not to work other times. Most of us fast typers hit the various control keys unconsciously, and I just noticed today that the thing doesn't accept the 'del' key
2) In the game itself, it displays the name of the system which it is clearly deriving from the computer name itself. However, my computer name is one character longer than the name you saved. Thus, perhaps you are trying to match my full computer name against the abbreviated version you have stored which, of course, fails. Try truncating them both to the same length before you compare them.
And one last little detail, PLEASE. Check to see if your comparison of E-Mail addresses is case-sensitive. Nobody really expects it to be and it's always the very last thing most developers think to check.

Unlikely as connection works fine through a virtual private network (vpn). The vpn means I am connecting through a different ip address to the neverwinter servers

Youve never been hacked in 10 yrs. go buy a lottery ticket.
ok. i hope cryptic are going to pay me a consultancy fee as I seem to have managed more progress on this in the last 36 hours.
im in the uk and am a virgin media customer. i have a superhub which acts as a modem and router in one. so far my superhub has worked fine with neverwinter. 36 hours ago i started getting the error "too many attempts....". All other internet activity is fine.

This was happening to me yesterday, and I slept between logins. It was a good 12 hours before I tried again, and still nothing.

I have just learned that I am able to change my hub from being a modem/router to just a modem. The benefit of this is that I get a new ip address. the downfall is that I can only have 1 wired connection in my house. http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Internet-security/someones-using-my-ip-address/m-p/1487056/highlight/true#M12887
i am now fully able to access neverwinter with my new ip address. clearly there is a specific problem between my old ip and neverwinter.
whilst i have a workaround, its not the most convenient and i trust that the devs will identify a solution in the very near future
