Hello. I'm almost done on completing my very first 'easy' foundry mission. But the last room I decided to employ a lot of encounters. Now I'm not sure if its because of the # of encounters or what but heres what happens.
Map visible
I click encounters
Drag/Drop onto map
Then my mouse disappears. I cannot manipulate anything. I can barely select 1 and 2 for Details and non Details but again my mouse disappears; its as if my editor crashed.
I can control alt delete to bring up task manager but I cant kill NeverWinter because my mouse stays in the upper left side of the screen; it cannot move down whatsoever.
My only hope is to hit the Windows Key on my keyboard, and choose "Shutdown/Reboot"
After rebooting I can re launch Foundry Editor and I will get a message saying "we have found an autosave because you failed to save properly, do you wish to recover your data via the autosave" and I say "yes" and voila I can manipulate the encounter
But I guess the main issue is dropping encounters. Each and every time. Lets see; in that portion alone I think I've had to reboot like 4-6 times.
So I guess I ask. Is there a cap of encounters in a certain radius?
Is my map at fault?
I am using Cryptics map so its not that I created my own
And looking at the ummm what is it called; the BUDGET; I seem well within it. For example I think theres like 500 encounters or something? Yeah well within.
When i select an object and press any arrow key then my object dissapears. It still is in the component tree but i am incapable of finishing quests like that.
Thank you. Next time that happens I will definitely try that. In the meantime, I've gone back in and manipulated some stuff and it hasnt happened yet lol
Becuase:
1) Inspect Object is always autocompleted for me (Sewers entry fountain in the north of the citiy)
2) As i wrote, if i select an object and hit an arrow key the object graphic in the editor dissapears and it is impossible to get it again not even with rebooting the foundry
3) Waypoints for "Reach Point" always results in "internal error"
And seriously, why are we unable to reuses objects mutliple times. This editor sucks balls. With the warcraft/starcraft editors you could do such amazing stuff and there it was a bonus feature not the main part of the game like here, where the rest of the game is pretty 0815. I mean ok i can understand the predefined asset policy somehow because of the problem of people publishing content they do not own which is in a managed system something perfectworld would be eligible for from a law view (at least in my country).
The editor has so many limitations and even simple tasks take much longer than they should need. And the 3D editing is a joke... seriously. Why can't we simply place object in a multipanel view in levels. This just shows how bad cryptic as a developement team is.
Sorry about the rant but i had such high hopes for this projects and the longer i play around in neverwinter or with the foundry the more i am.

This is so far exactly like I have dealt with. I have a Windows 8 System, a top end graphics card, and a quad core processor. The system memory usage is what is normal for most 2D editors I have worked with. Now the difference is that I built my own map. While it ended up being one level until the last room. The map editor was doing well. The map space is 2000x2000. I am using like maybe a 10th of the space to make my map so far.
Again. Similar to what I have experienced. Except that the 3rd time I crashed. It took me about 2 hours to get my system to reboot properly. Then I got a message as to why my system crashed. It involved the browser that Foundry was open in. It had a fatal error. Because it crashed, my system error log cannot tell me where in the coding the error occurred. This is a shortage on my error recording program though. I had no encounters in my dungeon yet. I was placing decorations in the main boss room. to be specific it was the tribal designed red Hh banners 02 and 04. "drag/drop....where's my mouse?" ctrl-alt-delete and there it is stuck in the upper left corner. Being Windows 8, it is pretty difficult to get to the reset or turn off part of the desktop without mouse control. Ctrl-s does not work while the mouse is stuck by the way.
Any ideas?
My opinion. There are a number of 3D editors for free out there just for maps. Toss the 3D menu into these and let the editor handle the 3D manipulation. NWN had a good 3D editor for maps. Granted couldn't do much in multiple levels very well unless you had been working with it for hours. I figured out how to make multiple levels within foundry, but had to do some fancy transport manipulation to allow players to reach 2nd/3rd floors of my map. As the ceilings in the rooms were in the way and I could not delete the blocks or move them to allow players to enter the upper levels. I think that this editor has a long way to go, but for what it is. It makes for a mediocre 2D editor for floor plans. the 3D editor needs a bit more freedom to get from one end to the other and the non static things need to be able to be moved by the editor author in the game. Like a pause for mobs so you can personally move them into position. For an example about this problem. Had a goblin making a "Han Solo in carbonite" thing going with a wooden object placed item. It looked cool, even got a screenshot of it, but not something I wanted it to do. I cannot even go into this map now without it crashing my computer. It's like dealing with the mimics in normal game play. A bit wary in opening chests in the delves with multiple mimics in them. The Foundry has crashed enough time, that I am wary of opening it to finish my foundry mission. Which as a GM, is not cool if I want to make my own content for other players to enjoy, or not enjoy as the case may be.
Constructive listing here:
Problems seen so far (includes other thread's information):
1. no training/tutorial section - to help new GM's in foundry who have never used editing programs like this. I had to go to youtube to watch various videos to get a feel for the basics of the Foundry. These were not as informative as I would have liked.
2. early release before the editor has been thoroughly tested? - I don't know if this true, but so far the majority of the foundry delves in game have been pre-made maps by cryptic. These were easy to use and no crashes for my system using these.
3. custom maps cause crashes more then pre-mades? - again not sure if this is unique, as there have been several posts about this using pre-made, but not many I found that mentioned custom made.
As a starting editor this is good for a start. Newer GM's in this will have a steep learning curve if they don't have anyone to help or prior experience in 2D editors for map design, then (x,y,z) coordinate manipulation for the 3D aspect of the pre-made map pieces. So far the game has met expectations for a first launch of a D&D game that allows players to create their own maps and stories. I just hope that the bugs can be worked out before full launch and frustrates a lot of would be GMs in the foundry editor.
Thank you PerfectWorld and Cryptic for the work you have been doing. Hope this post gives you a bit more detail.

Also, how do i create multi level dungeons?!
We don't have that functionality yet, I'm afraid.
