Sure the foundry sounds very promissing, and the promisses of the developers of adding more and more new features post release are there.
But will they keep their promisses when the development team gets cut, because their resources are needed for other games, or when the game does not meet financial expectations and fails to make money?
So far MMO history has tought us that half the post release ( even WoW and GW2) are never met...
This is my biggest worry for the games longlevity...
Why are you even asking this question when you obviously know the answer? If they find that Neverwinter isn't profitable (which is highly unlikely) and wish to throw it under the bus, "promises" (what promises? Cryptic has been very careful about not outright promising anything because of things like this) won't be worth squat. And so what?

Take each day as it comes, what it is today is what it is. Anticipation for what may come will not bring you happiness. The foundry today is a great tool. It can be better, it can have more features, there are things that we would like for it to do. None of that precludes that today the foundry is a great tool. If it gets better, fantastic, my enjoyment of the tool is not based upon what it might one day become, but what it is. I will continue to contribute to what may one day be the improved foundry. I will continue to accept that what it is today is a wonderful, fun way to tell stories to a large audience.
Why does the completely unknown future cause so much stress and fear in some people?
Serious question here. Why do people not simply relax and enjoy the present. The future is irrelevant. The here and now is what matters. Though you cannot plan the future on events of the past, it is clear that Foundry improvement process has continued non-stop for the Star Trek Online version.
There is no hint, prophecy or any other kind of reason for such fearful proselytizing in the OP regarding the Foundry or any other aspect of the game.
So here's my prediction in answer to the OP: You will find that your stress and resulting ulcers were all for naught as the game will be successful, and the firm belief of Cryptic in general in the Foundry as a toolset for game players carries a lot of importance and therefore will not be cast aside so easily or frivolously.
Take a chill-pill (legal or otherwise), sit back, take deep breaths and have a psychedelic adventure that mellows your overactive heart rate and calms your mind. ~winks~
Being a new game, there will be plenty of resources added to creating more content for the players and the authors for quite a while (subjective). Even if they do not add everything that we (authors) want to the foundry, as it sits it's a very, VERY effective tool at telling a story for others to enjoy, this has been proven with the current list of quests available. As long as authors have a story to tell, there will be new content for the players to enjoy.
They have allowed, yes that's right ALLOWED, us to play with their toys, which no other company has done with an MMO. That alone is a huge bonus to everyone.
No need to spread doom and gloom before the game launches about your own fears of what will be in the future, the world may end tomorrow, go think about that.
There is a rumor floating around that I am working on a new foundry quest. It was started by me.
Nothing is guaranteed, the STO dev team has seen a fair amount of change since launch and in many ways they have exceeded their promises (and missed the mark on some too) I think some devs will go others will stay....just like every other MMO.
I honestly think there will be enough talent in the Foundry community that the players could keep the game going with plenty of new content. I know just our team will be providing plenty of Foundry material. I've also spoke to many other guilds who are going to make several things as well. Best case scenario to me would be to open the foundry up for the community to make their own worlds, servers, etc. If they would open us up like that we would build the entire city of Menzoberranzan and some surrounding areas just within our community. They could charge for foundry space or items, etc and still make enough to cover for the hosting costs. I mean look how long the Neverwinter Nights community kept building and playing the toolset created servers. They just need to find a way to cash in on those and they would be set, I promise you.
Just got to go with the flow and take what they can give! I don't think they ever really promised anything, if they did tell me so I can go slingin me axe around some Dev heads!
You can plan for the future, plan for the promise of your children's future, plan for retirement. You cannot however plan for the bus tomorrow that pops a curb and permanently ends your planning. I plan to enjoy building things in the foundry. However, I suspect my 2 year-old has other plans. At least until naptime... Games are kind of in the same boat err or sidewalk. Beware the bus driver.

Apart from the not-so-subtle drugs stuff, you're a man of my own heart. I've learned over time that a lot of people aren't happy if they can't worry about something. I'm just glad I'm not them.
