Future Foundry Implications

I was just sitting here thinking of my experiences in getting to play with 3D environments over the years, and how much fun I have had doing so. Here comes the Foundry, a free tool to play with a 3D environment, with very little limits to your imagination. There are going to be a lot of kids getting in there, and having their first experience with some pretty awesome controls, and feel a sense of power.. the same one I have known for a long time. This is a very exciting time to be a kid. The learning possibilities, and the ability to create stories is taken to a whole new level, and never before has it been so easily accessible, and in a package that can be understood fairly quickly to a modest level... and with time, there are no more limitations. THAT, to me, is an amazing thing.

Aye, my nephew who is nine is sooo excited for this game. He has created a story already and we are going to create it together. My son is only 7 loves playing the game but isn't into the creating part yet. It is very amazing and I am looking forward to the time I get to share with all my little ones!

As a side note, when I was in college, I had a wonderful teacher that one day taught the entire class, "You have mastered a program when you can make it do something it was never intended to do."

Thats exactly it, bobcat... Just imagine being a kid right now.. They can write a story, any story. Then they can play with a toy that is among the best toys ever, and bring that story to life in a way that hasnt been possible before, except by those willing to put the time into learning the other programs available.. which bare no resemblance to the ease of the foundry, and the depth you can go to with enough time to really work the controls.

NOTE: everything is a toy to me. lol.

One of my favorite quotes to tell my junior Engineers is one from Albert Einstein:

"If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough."

I know not exactly on the same thought you had, but what you said reminded me of this.

And another tidbit i thought of.. they will be exposed to controls that teach them angles, and physics, and directions, and grids, and coordinates, and the list is pretty endless here.. The point is, they will be exposed to them long before they would ever see that in school, and that is quite an implication.

Our kids are gonna grow up with skills that are hard to imagine.
