was wondering if we could use the foundry for projects not questing related....say for example use the foundry to make player houseing or maybe a guild hall... just a thought
"Just because im short and stumpy doesnt mean im not fast and nimble. my thirst for treasure keeps me...shall we say...more athletic than most dwarves" Dakoldin Quiverbeard (Dwarven Ranger)
thats an interesting thought. Sounds very possible if you're able to put access restrictions on the area. For pure roleplay purposes, I could totally see it being able to serve that function. However, I cant see you being able to use it as a traditional player house/guild hall for storing items or something along those lines.
very interesting idea though. wonder if anyone whos worked with the STO or Champions foundry system could chime in on this?
It was talked about with devs already by the community. They told us foundry needs to be a persistent world for that. This "persistent" is in wishlist of devs.
Wishlist means "Not anytime soon" if at all - according to language used by devs.

Very interesting idea indeed, though I don't need a house since the world will be my home!

I plan to make everything 5 man / group only in my Foundry.
To me MMOs are about playing with others; I hate to solo.

Would be so awesome to make PvP scenarios. IE one team is inside a castle, other team is leading the charge to overthrow them. Maybe have a massive forest and disable weapons, take a break from bloodshed and play a game of capture the flag?
Also I really want to see what crafting is like, and if items will be attainable from foundry? I assume no, since this would lead to in game currency being rendered moot, and the ability to just make a map with all the gathering points you desire. Or can you not play a map in foundry until it's been accepted into the community for download?

I also hope they will do tournament play like they do at RPG conventions. Rate teams based on how fast they get through them and if they completed everything.
Hopefully one day all the wish's of the developers ideals will be realized with the Foundry. It is the most important system this game brings to the table and IMO it is a game changer on so many levels.

I think it's probably the most important thing it brings to the table for MMO's in general. I don't think we will see western MMO's being released for much longer after this that doesn't include some UGC. The possible longevity that the Foundry is going to add to this game is immeasurable. That being said, if the core mechanics aren't good, then it doesn't matter one bit. The game has to be good first, because even if the tools to make UGC are wonderful, if they are built off a flawed system, then it doesn't do anything.

At this time:
Foundry missions generate non persistent instances which are made each time somebody "accepts" a mission. Therefore you can't have anything "lasting" in the mission. If you drop some items in an area, leave and return a few days later, the items only built in the mission itself remain.
HOWEVER, both having a community shared created persistent world AND making Foundry PvP missions are at the top of its wishlist and Devs are working to see if this can be implemented in the future.

Thanks for the reply. I love the idea as well, and have been looking forward to getting my hands on the foundry.
While we wait for the beta, I do have another foundry-related question: Will there be any sort of scripting language available to build more complex scenarios, or perhaps more complex interactions (similar to the original NWN games)?
Thanks! I can't wait, only 24 hours to go until the first beat weekends opens.... How will I sleep tonight?

Sorry no. It's internally regulated against exploiting so no scripting.
Sorry for reviving this thread! It's just a wee question posed to anyone that may have the answer.
But-- should we decide to make a Player House or something for like, Group RP (5-man group). We know it's not persistent, but... would such a thing be allowed? Could we actually -publish- such a thing?

Thank you... that is what D&D and mmo's are about.
