I cant help but notice how strongly ppl feel about vampires. You either hate vampires, or love em. Werewolves, ppl tend to be kinda 'meh' about it. Its also kinda sad that all the vamp haters just use Twilight as fuel. Equally sad, is that the original vampire was just a ghost that brought on curses... kinda lame.

Wow I didn't mean to start such a big debate with this thread lol. I don't so much want to play a vampire or werewolf, but I would love fighting them in game. Both have pretty much always been part of D&D, and would bite (yes, pun intended) if they weren't there. Me personally am ok with new incarnations/shows with vampires and werewolves. But personally I prefer my monsters evil and/or monstrous not emo and sparkly. As for fave movies...well some of my first memories are of 2 movies, 1979's Salem's Lot (freaky vampire kid floating outside the window FTW!) and 1970's Scars of Dracula with Christopher Lee. Those two movies alone started my interest in vampires!

For me it depends on the depiction of the Vampire, I am more of a Gregor Brastov/Jandar Sunstar fan than the Lestat/ WoD/Underworld Vampire fan..which I believe gave birth to the Sparkelpire.

IMO there is only one monster people should hate... Anything that takes away your hard earned character levels!!!

Actually, I don't hate vampires. Or werewolves, for that matter. They are GREAT monsters that if used properly....can really tear a party a new HAMSTER.

The key word there is "monsters". Notice it is not "player character". THAT is where the chance to be played badly becomes exponentially worse. To date, every single RP'er that I've come across(and I have -years- of MMORPG game play and RP under my belt) plays either of those monsters so badly....I do the epic Picard double facepalm. EVERY TIME. Again, this is simply my experience in the matter, and until someone comes along to let me see anything different...it -is- all I have to go on.

Also, I do apologize if my opinions offend. I do sometimes state them rather bluntly and brusquely.

Back to topic, I am sure that we as players will have the option to combat both types of monsters, but I am dubious as to whether or not a player can, or ever will be able to apply either template to their character in actual game play.....and I'm perfectly okay with that. I would even pay good money to keep it from happening, but that's just my opinion.

while personally I wouldnt mind being able to add in the Vampire/Werewolf subtype at the same time I really dont want it due to the fact that you will end up with towns filled to the brim with Vampire Drow. which to be honest the fact that Drow are going to be more prevalant than almost any race in this game is deeply more unsettling.

Yeah, everyone wants to play 'that one' good monster that defies its natural behavior. The only time I've ever played a vamp, was in an evil game... where it works. I lusted for power, turned one of our party members into my slave, and attacked anyone who defied me! Surprisingly, I survived the entire campaign, probably because I was nigh unkillable (my DM made a dumb move and allowed me seek a way to become immune to the sun).

I think thats where the 'half-monsters' come into play. I'd wish they would be more accessible, seeing that it's almost like having your cake and eating it too.

Now see....that nigh unkillable thing. We run into the balance issue full tilt. If you're going to be THAT powerful by applying a template to your character and picking advantages to nullify weaknesses....why play anything else? Why be a control wizard? Why be the guardian or heavy weapon fighter? Just be the vamp and kill everything. Faceroll raids. Faceroll content. No. A thousand times, no. That right there would be so utterly game breaking....it'd break other games, too. :)

Trolling still lol. You are a monster in this thread lol. The forum Troll or at least this threads Troll.
A thousand times yes to play as Werewolf of Vampire. Handsome/Beautiful Vampires have nothing to do with Fetish. Granted it is true a Werewolf in wolf form is not handsome or beautiful. However Vampires can be very handsome/beautiful.

Ok I understand if you are scared that monsters might kill you everywhere in the game that can be played by players. That is almost similiar to World PvP. However there is a simple solution to that. Make some areas restricted and voluntary to enter. Werewolves and Vampires get only access to say 1/3 of the World. Those players who enter that 1/3 monster area can do that voluntary. That is the only valid logic I see if somebody is scared to be killed by monsters everywhere. That said I told the simple solution to that.

...Jandar Sunstar fan than ....
Yeah! That was the name - the gold elf vampire from dales! I kept forgetting the name with Jade sunstrider or something. Has been very long since I read him.
