Just to repeat, it's been confirmed Neverwinter will have no faction systems.
No factions in D&D ? Even baldur's gate had factions and it was a game made more then 10 years ago.....
Even icewind dale had factions..Every D&D campain HAS factions....
The more and more content from this game is released the more I am getting the feeling it's gonna be at best average. Definitly it's fun lvl will not reach bladur's gate, icewind or neverwinter nights
I just hope it's better then DDO

NeN: ... What about Alignment? Will selecting an Alignment be available? And will it impact how NPCs within the game interact with you? Or will there be Factions within the game that you can gain or lose favor with?
JE: Neither alignment nor factions play a role in Neverwinter.
Keep in mind though, that was quoted from an article from the middle of last year. We haven't heard any different, however that is not to say that factions won't eventually play a part. I know that I would like to see some sort of in game mechanics that deal with the various Organizations, Factions, Cities, Countries and Gods - not necessarily PvP though.
Although, the Gods and Realms' factions would make a good way to introduce meaningful PvP. E.G. Shar vs. Selune, Netheril vs. Cormanthor, etc. Probably the only way I would engage in PvP in my beloved Forgotten Realms MMO would be either if Mystra was involved (long-shot considering she's not animate during this timeline, not until the Third Sundering+) or it was similar to Shadowbane where we built our own castles, keeps, and small villages and got to defend them and attack other's.
I loved Shadowbane, epic battles and razing of entire player-owned cities. It was marvelous. Shadowbane was the only MMO I truly enjoyed PvP in. All other forms of PvP in other MMOs have left me feeling as though they are nothing more than immature kids yelling and screaming and the stroking of virtual egos. If PvP is going to be in Neverwinter, I will only participate if it has meaning, substance and fits into the Lore of the Realms.

Factions in a MMO can be done in 2 ways:
1) A way to separate players (like in WoW Alliance/Horde, for instance)
2) A way to unite players (for instance when players work towards a goal, or they accumulate reputation with an organization).
I think that what won't be present in this game is #1. #2 will be, i suppose, but not as "opposing factions" (i.e. Harpers vs Shar Church).
Dilige, et quod vis fac (Love, and do what you will)
They will release more content if people play it and they get money from the game => people will not play it and they will not get money because it will be a lacking too much of the D&D good stuff.
This is how I see the "we will release...."
+they are developing the game since ever with 2 delays.
PVP is just something they don't want to pass by as they make a generic system that allows users to make interesting missions in the UGC. If you want pvp, just make your own missions. I want to see persistent worlds in UGC and they should be very realistic. User created content allows for factions like pvp/pve or anything at all really.
Pretty sure we can make our own arenas, hunting grounds for real assassins, everything.
We don't need contrived faction systems that only make everything more complicated. Just as long as it will be possible to use standard combat against real players, that will be sufficient to make scaled wars from 1vs1 to tribe vs tribe and city vs city.
But it requires one thing that i havent really seen yet: open world areas in the foundry. It seems my already laid out arena will look like a drow's sanctum, and not like the barbarian fortification that i wanted to make. I want a full scale castle builder integrated into the foundry .

PvP's "bad attitudes" comes from the competitive environment. People are playing against each other and it is in their nature to be competitive. Personally I like open PvP kill anyone anywhere any time like Shadowbane (but that will never happen again). This is why we make PvP and PvE servers....
This game does not support PvP servers. All servers follow same rules. All PvP will thus almost certain be instanced.

Simply to make it clear this game does not support persistent player Worlds or a GM client. After trying NWN1 Persistent Worlds I am happy that only Cryptic will be server holder.
However everything else you say seems interesting. I hope also that in future players could create Castles and Battleground PvP maps. I also hope this game will support Capture The Flag that was my favorite PvP gaming mode in both Unreal Tournament 2004 and WOW.

You can create dungeons and maps NOT content like classes or new realm rules, you can't affect the way the game works. That would be stupid.

It would make me to create a new class called GOD with all the powers of all classes and a magic ring that kills all players&npc on a radius of 20 meters + a magic hat that makes me invincible.
lol yeah and free loots and etc.
No, i was thinking that we don't get a faction system, but this doesn't keep us from designing a realm war with different colored tribes in it.. all it needs is basic pvp mechanics.
Along the same line, don't need private servers for persistency. Instead we can expand on foundry missions to include hub areas, mission givers, shops. We cannot have the same features as in NWN, but that is something i am chewing on already and it goes for most every feature of the game.

As an option pvp is not bad. As a forced decision, such as games where pvp can not be opted out of, it is debatable but in general it makes the game into a smaller niche.
I love pvp...I still don't like not being given the option to ignore it.
That being said pvp tends to make balance be far more important, witch tends to cause more stress for the devs and bring in unsavory types of people...
