The bears have GOT TO GO

I am new to this community but make no mistake, I am VERY excited about this game. I grew up playing pnp D&D. Baulders Gate got me hooked on PC games and I also played NVN 1&2. I hope it lives up to the hype because this game is exactly what my gaming soul has been craving for several years now. Basicly since the first time I left wow several years ago and tried every crappy MMO since then.

That being said, as a new member to this community and someone that has your best interest at heart because I really want you to succeed... you must, and I mean MUST remove these childish ridiculous bear emocons.

They do not appeal in the slightest to the average person interested in this kind of game. If you are marketing towards 12 year olds, keep in mind that D&D has captured the imagination of children since its concept and 1st addition ruleset quite well enough on it's own w/o childish cartoonish garbage like this.

This game is going to attract a very diverse and wide age and generation gap in players. Those smilys are going to make people take a step back and say what the heck?

It feels like a marketing ploy for children. Please respect the age and taste of your average consumer and ditch the darn things now before its too late. I know it seems small, but small things can sometimes have a giant effect.

    Tiny Pyro vs. Smileybears:

    b:angry

I definitely agree with the general sentiment - the bears clash with the design scheme of the rest of the site pretty horrendously. It ultimately has 0 impact on my opinion of the game or the developers, but as far as annoyances go, they are very hard to ignore as they wiggle and twitch right next to where you are typing.

Could we possibly have the option in our account to hide them?

In light of these overly dramatic posts about the emoticons, I have this fantasy that when Cryptic's set comes in, they'll be blood-gargling, fire-defecating testostericons.

I don't like them, or emoticons in general, but seriously, guys.

I hope you understand they weren't chosen for this forum. They're just the default emoticons of the PWE forum system.

Carebears are Carbears reguardless where they came from or how they infested this community. They are as out of place here as a bull in a china shop and they need to go. Reguardless how they originated, they are clearly designed for mentally disfunctional people and children. Not teenagers.. children.

You say they are just defaault from PWs format? Isn't that slightly concearning considering a giant merge with PW? They belong on a Sponge Bob game. Capt Kangaroo and Barny would approve. Lets toss in some Smurfs and maybe Barbie and Ken. I mean seriously lol they are horrible man.

It's on. Tinypyro vs the bears. I live in Wi. We eat bears here

Well, actually no, most of PWE games' forums use the default smilies you'll see in most sites, the same ones you can see in forums like Bethesda's and the same ones you can see in the bottom of your posting window when you open one.
Though I quite like them tbh b:laugh

If you want to complain about smilies, it would be good to reserve your anger for where it matters, ie the smilies of the in-game chat. Until then, just hope Cryptic doesn't get lazy and borrow smilie packs from PWE, because they tend to look somewhat like this (though I gotta admit that even these are slightly more D&Dish than the bears we got here)

I'm not angry. Why is it impossible to critisize something w/o the assumption that you are nerd raging smashing your keyboard and pissing yourself?

People are so sensetive these days it is amazing. They are bad for several reason and that is my opinion. Doesn't mean that I am angry about it.

    Er... (O_O)

Bears are pointless. Do not matter. Yes, I'd prefer a different set but there are a bazillion things more important than the smilies.
If someone prefers not to play the game or post in the forum because of them ---> (^_^)/~~

But don't worry! Cryptic is already in Defcon 2 about the smilies!! (^o^)y

And where exactly did I personally accuse anyone of nerd raging, smashing their keybord or pissing themselves? I just posted my observation that people are getting a tad bit more vocal than is necessary for the ones responsible for the site to get the message...
I like them but I too feel that they are very out of place. Just give them some time, they have more serious matters in their hands atm, once they can fix the more serious issues in the forum they will probably also change how it looks. The background especially just screams "Real Deal Coming Soon"... no need for us to turn on each other ^__^

I admit, when I was posting about the "merge" elsewhere, the first time I saw those "Smilies" to the right, my first thought was "what the [censored]?!" Then it was reminded to me this was standard PWE. I still don't get it, but never say this site didn't go more in line with PWE then.

So if stormshade comes and says: "You allow us to keep the Bears smilies but we give you all access to the beta from first day to the very last day.", would you agree? :p

(I know that some may prefer to suffer the bears but get guaranteed beta, such is the power of beta!!)

lol did you even read the OP? I just joined the community a few days ago, so you are way off base my friend.

I tried playing "Forsaken World" which is a Perfect World game. Supposedly, that is the reason these bears are here.

Here is my concearn: Forsaken World has Emocons just like these bears IN GAME CHAT. Do you really want to see these stupid bears in NW game chat? Didn't think so. Therefore it is only reasonable to mention our distaste for them now before it gets out of hand. If you dont believe me, download Forsaken world and watch the chat for 10 seconds. It is littered with giant animated cartoonish emocons just like this.

Easy. They can keep their forking game, beta and all.. I am a 30+ year old man. I'm not alone. I WILL NOT PLAY A GAME WITH THOSE BABY ICONS. IT WILL NOT HAPPEN.

I have studied D&D lore since 1977... played EVERY licensed D&D computer game there was, dating back to the original Pool of Radiance. You can not fool someone like me. This baby **** does not belong here, and the design team needs to put in a day's work and make a D&D product. If Stormshade wants to ban me for saying it, fine.

If they want to sell this game mainly to 6-14 year olds, then call it Neverwinter Jr, and we'll leave now!

Oh, and I'm not angry either. I'm quite calm and matter of fact.

Forsaken World is made by Shenmo Wanmei, and has an anime-ish steampunk artstyle. And that's why it has the emoticons it has - because they fit in perfectly with the game. I've played it for about a year, and I can assure you 99% of people there like them...

NW is a classic western-fantasy style game, and is made by Cryptic. Of course it won't have the same emoticons - unless the people at Cryptic suddenly felt like making a fool out of themselves and their product...

Remember, PWE only has a say as far as CS and websites are concerned. They do not bother with developing anything themselves, in fact if I remember correctly the whole technical team in FW concisted of a grand total of TWO people - and that's because they were only pretty much making sure that the patches sent by the devs worked - and if they didn't they just sent them back to China for fixing, instead of fixing them themselves...
So, don't worry, Cryptic's games are 100% made by Cryptic. PWE doesn't have the manpower to do anything about them even if they wanted to... they are publishers, not developers, remember...

Lol damn so much rage. What does it matter if they're childish? No one uses them anyways. I hear quitting over the bear smilies. I don't even know what to say lol. I understand it doesn't belong in a game such as this, but what harm does it do? The main purpose of the forums is to discuss and get information from. Anyways, new and better smilies wouldn't hurt; or none at all, it doesn't really matter.

Once again. Nobody is angry. I just do not understand the mentallity of certain people that you have to be raging every time you express your opinion. But I am American. I live in a country where we have this thing called the 1st ammendment. It's called freedom of speech. Another American quality is to offer feedback as a potential consumer.

If you think someone is angry every time they express an opinion, then perhaps you are from a country where freedom of speech is surpressed rather than encouraged b:laugh b:bye b:chuckle

Yes, and it's called the United States of America. Our own president Barrack Obama called the constitution "an imperfect document" and a "document that reflects some deep flaws." Ever heard of the NDAA and the Guantanamo Bay detention camp? Did you know that you can now be arrested, in your own home, without a warrant, and either assassinate you or put you to a detention camp without a fair trial? This act, the NDAA, was passed by our president Barrack Obama, when he said he would do his best to prevent it from passing, during New Year's Eve when everyone was too occupied and busy to notice. Our own government is shredding the last vestiges of the constitution. Wake up and sense danger.

That aside, since we can't talk about politics in this forums, you using the bear smilies when you clearly stated that you want them gone doesn't really help the cause.
