Why do campaign progression bars replace rewards with gold on alt characters?

avadariusavadarius Member Posts: 25 Arc User
This post is in response to campaign reward being changed to gold on alts once a character has claimed an initial valued reward of various useful resources.

I'm running 30+ something characters thru Sharandar, Northdark, and Menzoberranzan and as I progress the rewards (AD, chest reroll token, comp/mount tokens) are changed on alts to gold as my main progresses. If you upgrade a companion or a mount on one character it doesn't automatically upgrade all chr's so why is the number of tokens limited to one chr only even though all are progression through the campaign. 5 gold or even 10 gold is not equal to many of the rewards the gold is used to replace. It takes a lot of resources to upgrade mounts, companions, artifacts, and gear on 30+ characters.

I like that I can still earn the fashion pieces and the boons as well as upgrade materials required for weapons.

If the reward was to be changed could it not be some form of choice pack, zone progression currency to aid progression (as it is a 2nd or 30th run thru of the campaign). Even if the AD, tradebars, mount/companion tokens are removed why remove chest reroll tokens for alts when they are btc.

Meeting a campaign milestone is an achievement. You've made it to this point, congratulations here is your reward. However, if that reward is a soiled diaper, is it really a reward?

Sharandar, Northdark, and Menzoberranzan are interesting and time consuming zone to play through so swapping out rewards on alts seems like a disservice to dedicated players.

It changes the high-end, 1 per account, items with gold. That's things like the coal mote and the 100k AD. Can't have too much of that stuff getting into the hands of the players.

It has been like that in most (if not all) campaign in the exception when there was a bug in the first few weeks of Menzoberranzan campaign. They fixed that later.

Yes, it takes resources to upgrade the items you mentioned. They hope you can spend money in those stuff. On the other hand, it is not a big problem for the dedicated players.

For re-roll token, they want you to buy VIP.

In addition, if one does want to play many characters and wants to treat them 'almost' equally, one should pay less attention to upgrade mount and companion in long term. Instead, collecting resource to get account wide mythic mounts and companions. That would be way cheaper.
Sure, there are individual special mount/companion may not have account wide mythic version. However, upgrading few of them (depending on the build) one by one among characters does not cost as much as upgrading the whole 'fleet'.

It's like the devs want players to spend money and not play the game for considerable amounts of time...

Players that play multiple characters have been overlooked, sent backward and faced with steep diminishing returns on their efforts over and over for quite some time (got some positive treatment with account wide mounts and companions though).

It's funny that when it comes to things that can really count (like campaign progression, account bound equipment being available), characters are treated separately and each have to essentially do it themselves, though when it comes to rewards they have to share...
