Summer Celebration AFK completion?

It is possible to complete Summer Celebration quest from Summer Festival by just standing around in Water Battle, Hungry Trolls, or Summer Feast contest locations. Shouldn't it require participation of some sort?

    It does. I just doesn't require much participation unless you're going for top rank. And re: the Hungry Trolls, with the amount of power creep we've had you can just stand there and let passive powers and/or your companion do the job. I unintentionally afk'ed one of these when my cat started tearing through the living room and playing hide 'n seek with me, when I returned there was less than a minute to go, yet between my tiger and my passives I'd still got 30 points. Now I'm wondering how much I've could have got if I'd positioned myself in the middle of several roll mobs instead of off to the side.

    Completion of the daily quest for 3 events only requires you to be in the zone at the moment the event ends, making this completely AFKable so long as you don't time out. If you are wanting to purchase from the Petal Store however, it is better to at least get some credit in each event. Getting hit by a water balloon, depositing a little corn or 1 chicken, hitting a troll even if you don't kill it gives you 15 or 20 more petals.

    The original setup from the first year actually required you to complete 3 tasks, kill 5 trolls, herd 3 or 5 chickens and a pig, pick 12 flowers. There was no water balloon fight and troll runts were always present in the Grilling Grounds. For some reason in the second year, they decided that it would be a time sink rather than requiring people to do something. It never made any sense to me and ultimately made it less alt friendly, since previously each character took at most 20 mins, since I always tried to get credit for the current contest.
