Neverwinter Phone App
Everyone knows that one of the worst things for the PC economy has been bots. Everyone also knows that bots will never be fully stopped. So the next best thing is to make bots ineffective. So the question is how do you mitigate the bots?
The answer, make it to where all players can do what the bots do without the bots. Basically, if you can't beat them join them.
That is where my phone app comes in. The app that I'm thinking of would allow players to do three things, two of which bots do and one the bots can't do.
1. Envoking - Make it to where players can envoke anywhere and anytime. Since envoking no longer gives direct AD this wouldn't be over powered and more importantly it mitigates the bots doing this.
2. Professions - Make it to where players can do their professions anywhere and anytime. Let's face it professions for the must part don't do much, but they are something that the bots have ruled. Once again this would mitigate the power of the bots.
3. Zen Market - This is something the bots can't do. Make the Zen Market available anywhere and anytime. The great thing about this is it helps promote impulses buys. Only the Zen Market.
4. Fishing - Another thought for the app would be to allow fishing on the app in the Sea of Moving Ice or Chult. I would have everything that you can catch in each map lumped together so that you don't have to worry about map locations.
So obviously this app would need limited access to characters. It would need to see inventory items, but not allow the player to interact with inventory items. It would need to have access to the character's AD for rushing professions. It would need access to the character's envoking cycle information. It would need access the players Zen for use in the Zen Market and to deposit Zen from the Zen purchase screen. Zen would be deposited into the platform account corresponding with the character the Zen was purchased under. So if the player was currently logged in on one of their PS4 characters when they bought Zen then it would show up on their PS4 account and not their Xbox or PC account, if they have them.
I realize that this would be quite a bit of coding and testing but in the long run I think it would pay off big for NW. No other MMO that I know of has a companion app so it will set NW apart from the pack. The app would keep NW in the minds of the players more often. The app would prompt impulse bus from the Zen Market. And most importantly the app would take away the advantage of bots and render them not as profitable to use.

2. Professions - these were on the Gateway. And they were botted. Badly.
3. Zen Market - having this available on a phone app could lead to possible issues of fraudulent purchases if not handled correctly. Not really a huge deal, and no real appeal for a bot. But I don't really see much of a point in it outside of sales when you don't have time to play.
4. Fishing - this would probably be botted a lot too, mainly because a lot of people don't seem to like fishing.
Phone apps can be botted just as easy as browser apps like the Gateway were. I do not see them doing this at any point in the foreseeable future.

As much as I whould love to see the gateway return, I don't think it will be happening any time in the future. The resource cost versus the low return plus the added potential for abuse equals a very ugly equation
Second. Invoking does give Bonus Rough Astral Diamonds, which can easily converted into Astral Diamonds and soon would flood the markets. Just imagine, someone sitting at work on their lunch hour and going through the first to invocations for 20 toons without every picking up the controller.
This not a mobile game.
What I would like to see is...

This sounds like an undertaking for a large studio not a small team. Not to mention new security issues introduced with mobile apps, the different platforms having different economies meaning separate apps for each platform or the ability to switch platforms via the app maybe?
Nothing against the idea of portability for something like professions (which the PC had via gateway and had it taken away for being naughty, naughty users) but the potential for abuse and the lack of, IMO, time/people to get this done right make this a pipe dream.
