Hi guys, I have a Level 70 Annointed Champion DC. I was wondering when is it useful to use Geas? I was thinking during solo play but it means my DPS drops... so I have some trouble clearing the Bryn Shandar Totem quest Barbarian Shamams. Is it a good idea to switch to Geas during those encounters on solo? I probably could stun the Barbarian Shaman but what other powers should I use? Some help would be appreciated on using Geas effectively.

My advice for you would be don't use it solo. Like you point out, slotting it replaces a different encounter and we are already hard up encounter slots.
What else are you running? What build do you have?
For solo, I'd recommend a DO-righteous full dps loadout running Chains, Divine Glow, and Daunting Light. Or possibly switch Chains out for Bastion of Health or Astral Shield if you need a little more survivability, since both of those also build AP nicely. Here's a link to Putz's build which is a good starting point for DO-righteous:

If you're that low on power, I would strongly suggest switching to a DO-righteous loadout for solo-ing. You'll be able to deal much more damage.
Also check your Armor Penetration. What is your Resistance Ignored % at ? You can also consider underwear reinforcement kits, greater ef rez pots, and SH ef rez food to get your Everfrost Resistance up to take the edge off the big hits. Make ample use of dodge, since it grants a wide immunity frame.
The problem is that if you don't have enough dps, adding more tankiness won't actually help you solo very much. You'll be able to survive but battles will be long with plenty of room for mistakes that get you killed. In the adventure zones, a good offense is really the best defense.
EF damage works like this: for every hit that you take in a zone where EF is on, you take a normal hit (applying Damage Resistance, mitigation, etc.) and then you take a second _piercing_ hit for the full amount (ignoring Damage Resistance, many sources of mitigation, etc.). This second hit can be reduced by EF resistance. So yes, putting on more than 30% will help reduce the damage you take by quite a bit.
How much do you need? However much in order to survive haha.
As @dupeks said, what's your armor penetration? The mobs in SOMI have more damage resistance than many of the other campaign zones. You need 34% Resistence Ignored.
In builds you got to choices, build for defense or build to kill quickly. Find the right balance is up to you
