'Reflect Damage' during Illusionist's Gambit

nevfenevfe Member Posts: 214 Arc User
Is there any way of identifying which mobs are actually doing the reflecting at any particular moment?

As it is I find groups I'm in which otherwise have no problem at all are regularly wiping when this mechanic activates. People are literally one-shotting themselves.

Whilst the idea of random mechanics and mobs has potential to bring variety to the game, this new skirmish suffers due to the setting as well as going on too long. The whole 'vote' between stages seems rather pointless too.

Don't mind the vote, though yes, it does seem a bit whimsical. The reflect damage though is a real problem, when I see that flash up, I basically have to stop hitting anything. Squishy dps HR.
No idea what my toon is now.

When I tried it on preview, you got a debuff on your buff bar.

When I last tried it on live, the mobs had red shield icons floating near them ala OP Shield of Faith.

By the way, it's not just squishy glass cannons either: my GF is fairly robust, and even I find myself getting rekt by the reflect damage of my Crushing Surge/Jagged Blades. I think it's piercing damage, but can't confirm,

That damage reflect is pretty funny imo ... Nice to see CWs casting Icy Terrain in there XD

The real problem with a reflect mechanic in NW is the complete disconnect between the amount of damage we do, the amount of health we have and the amount of damage enemies do and how much health they have.

Neither scale is even remotely close to each other. In 5 man content many DPS classes (and even some of the support classes) can very easily do 5-10 times (or more) the players total health pool with a single attack. If the reflect happens to pop up at that moment, you're guaranteed to one-shot yourself.

Granted one-shotting yourself from time to time in this particular skirmish is meaningless. Just spam help til someone helps you up or use a scroll (I know I have hundreds left over from winterfest). Since its a skirmish I assume you can just re-enter or you just release and rez in the arena, I actually have no idea I've never had to release in IG. Anyway, its a moot point. Just go balls to the wall and one shot yourself, cuz in the end it really doesn't matter.

Actually it DOES matter. If all the team end up dead at the same time (and I've personally seen that happen three times now), the skirmish is over, you've lost.

I suspect that some AE attacks can reflect to the whole team not just the caster as that's the only explanation I have for a mass death. But I've never got around to checking the logs so far.

Seriously.. it's a skirmish. Wipe, be done with it, then re-queue, and do it again.

I've seen so many people whining and crying about this, and I find it hilarious. Yeah, so I've one-shotted myself. Considering I can't one-shot much else, I take a point of pride in that.. I'm tough enough to kick my own HAMSTER.

To date, there has been nothing better than the swarm of pinatas. That was brilliant.

I don't think it's piercing but still quite high. Today I used Seismic Shot and got two reflects for 220k each mitigated to 110k each (my fault anyway).

Honestly,, I like it,, it makes you THINK while playing rather than mindlessly blasting away everything that crosses your path,,,, "ok, I got to be carefull here now cuz I may just kill myself" love it, don't change it, except maybe to make it more noticeable as to WHAT mobs are actually doing the reflecting,,
Also,, piñata swarm, , AWESOME!

I thought it was all of the enemies that may reflect damage when it states so under the map to the right. Just don't use any big encounters while it is active (although it was fun to one-shot myself the first time and wonder what happened :D )

the debate isn't wither its a good mechanic or not, its over being able to identify the enemies reflecting damage.

Oh I agree whole heartedly.. I love the mechanic  It makes it more challenging and makes players THINK for a change rather than mindlessly blazing away all mobs that cross our path... same with Nalfehnee in demon heroics... get out of the way of the blast or go splat....
    On that note,
I really hate players who repeatedly stand in the blast and spam the revive ping thinking people SHOULD revive them... NO! If I see someone go down once.. ok.. may have been bad luck... twice, and your spamming the pinger,, forget it,, not getting a revive from me
