I respecced to a Hybrid Build, played some PvP and found that all the spam on the internet about Piercing Blades being over powered was not true. I was actually able to hurt a couple of people but in general I was Controlled to death (even with Trans Elven + CC Resist Boons) whilst not being able to control anyone in return, even with Crushing Roots.

Edit... I am just ranting as it is 1st thing in the morning. I understand that I am in a PvE only Guild with no HP Boon and no PvP Boons what so ever... so that is probably one thing to take into account. That and I am only in Elemental Lionsmane Gear so people are probably better equipped than me.
Well, lack of decent boons isn't going to help you, but in my opinion (as expressed in the thread) the hybrid piercing/trapper build is ineffective in pvp. You need the burst damage you get from Skirmisher's Gambit + Flurry to make a dent in anyone as a pvp HR.
Even then, at a BIS vs BIS level you're really only going to do well against GWFs. Paladins and DCs can still faceroll their way through a match, the GF 3-button kill still exists, and of course TR has needed a serious beating with the nerfbat for years. CWs are a 1-button faceroll class with Repel having essentially no cooldown, SWs can facetank almost anything 1v1, our dodge is still far too small, the only time we can evade control effects is during Fox's Cunning, the animations for Boar Charge and Guishing Wound are just offensively bad, Forest Ghost is still buggy....
But if you can deal with all that, it's still fun to beat up on GWFs.
